LEARNER LITERACY INSTRUCTOR

The Murphy Centre is a community-based agency, which has been committed to providing participants with effective, integrated academic, career and personal development opportunities since 1986. The Murphy Centre is currently seeking 2 full-time Learner Literacy Instructors for the Happy Valley-Goose Bay site.

Job Title: Learner Literacy Instructor Location: Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL Position Type: 2 full-time term positions. With funding from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, the Murphy Centre has partnered with the Labrador Friendship Centre to establish and deliver a Literacy Program for participants of the Labrador Friendship Centre. The Learner Literacy Instructors will be responsible for the administration and delivery of adult foundational literacy, numeracy, digital literacy, and life skills programming.

Core Responsibilities

➢ Promoting and recruiting participants for the Literacy Program

➢ Assessing the learning needs of individual learners ➢ Designing and implementing individual learning plans

➢ Facilitating learning in individual and small group settings

➢ Supporting learners through the learner advisory process

➢ Developing partnerships with other community organizations to enhance programming

➢ Assisting with the report writing and evaluation of the initiative Candidate

Qualifications and Characteristics

➢ Education degree

➢ Valid Newfoundland and Labrador teaching certificate

➢ Competence and experience in teaching Literacy and Numeracy

➢ Background in supporting individuals to overcome academic and life barriers ➢ Knowledge and experience in adult education

➢ Knowledge and experience in differentiated instruction

➢ Knowledge and experience using assessment tools and resources

➢ Knowledge and experience working with populations with complex needs

➢ Knowledge and experience working in community organizations

➢ Team-player
