The Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, in conjunction with the Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, is seeking a full-time Academic Neurologist fulfilling the academic position description of Clinician Investigator. The candidate should be eligible for an appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. Advanced training and evidence of scholarship is a requirement for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Expected start date is July 1, 2024, or a mutually agreeable date thereafter.


Sunnybrook is a leader, and has a respected international reputation, in the field of vascular cognitive impairment. We are looking for a collegial candidate committed to collaborating with this high performing team, and aspiring to advance activities to even greater levels. We are seeking a physician who has advanced training in stroke that can provide expertise for significant care needs in stroke, and related neurovascular conditions. Thrombolysis and neurological input to endovascular therapies would occur on call. Stroke ward management would be expected. Outpatient stroke care would also be part of the position with a clinical focus on cognitive disorders. Research training is necessary to facilitate a research agenda in vascular cognitive impairment. The successful candidate will be expected to support a successful academic team program in stroke including at least 3 overnight stroke calls per month. The candidate may also cover shared General Neurology call, inpatient consultation services, as well as manage related outpatient clinical work. The primary language of work will be in English.


The successful candidate must hold an MD degree; have or be eligible for certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Neurology; and have or be eligible for licensure to practice from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.


The successful candidate will have respective training suiting the academic position. Candidates will require advanced training post-residency in a defined area relevant to the proposed position. The successful candidate will devote approximately 50% of their time to scholarly activities in vascular/cognitive research, spend 30-50% of their time to patient care including quality improvement initiatives in the division, and approximately 10% teaching/administration duties. The successful candidate will be evaluated by key stakeholders including students, team members, hospital administration, and research leadership.


Estimated remuneration will be between the range of $200,000 - 400,000 per year (fee for service), commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered. The candidate will be able to participate in the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.
