Solo Cable is currently recruiting Locators to join our operations the Brantford area for permanent, full-time positions.

  • Work focused in Brantford and surrounding areas but may extend to 200 kilometers
  • Head office located in Brantford

Essential Qualifications:

  • Willing to work over-time and in all weather conditions

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and repetitive tasks, managing time efficiently
  • Able to do physically demanding work i.e., digging and carrying of heavy equipment
  • Advanced math skills; understanding of measurement
  • Excellent collaboration/communication skills; able to communicate and receive direction from others
  • Must be safety conscious
  • Mechanically inclined; able to maintain company trucks, machinery or tools assigned, trouble-shoot, repair and replace when appropriate
  • Geographical knowledge sufficient to read maps and follow directions
  • Read and understand blueprints, utility locate markings, schematics and manuals, gauges, dials, and other indicators and adjust as necessary
  • Competent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent customer service
  • Able to work efficiently with minimal supervision; self-motivated, disciplined, organized and a team player

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate identify and confirm accuracy of utility measurements and pathways to aid Drillers in the locating of essential underground utilities to safely drill around them in accordance with drill plans
  • Locator and Drill Operator will work together to determine the bore path, and accurately position drill head and operate the directional drill to place cables and /or conduit; Spot drill through the drilling process to ensure clearance of utilities and alignment with bore path; Locator understands how to lay out a bore path with plans and locates and the utilization of a Hydrovac for proper day-lighting
  • Conducts research or analyzes data regarding excavation locations, construction prints, plot pages and plans to determine actual running line for telecommunication utility
  • Work in heavy and hazardous traffic conditions following proper traffic control procedures using appropriate safety equipment and procedures as per Book 7 and Company H&S Policies.
  • Complete a range of physically demanding tasks like:
  • Handling and distributing materials
  • Loading and unloading vehicles with supplies and equipment
  • Lift/carry tools and equipment throughout a work site
  • Restore work sites

Requirements:

  • Criminal Background Check
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract and CVOR Abstract to be insurable
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
  • Language: fluent in English
  • Must provide own Steel Toed Safety boots and work pants
  • Minimum 1 year experience locating utilities
  • Previous experience working in construction and maintenance of telecommunications an asset
