Position Summary:

Inspect and perform preventative maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Proficiently and safely troubleshoot, repair, install, inspect and adjust all types of electrical and control equipment in the manufacturing plant.
  • Troubleshoot industrial process electrical equipment including motor control, PLC and relay control systems, building, lighting and power distribution.
  • Responsible for assisting the production lines with changeovers and setups.
  • Rebuilding of equipment when necessary (i.e. Molding machines, grinders, pumps).
  • Understand and troubleshoot AC & DC variable speed motor control drive systems. Specifically Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting PLC controlled equipment using computer and test equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on production equipment weekly, monthly, and annually.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management system to report on completion of assigned tasks and recommend further actions.
  • Read and interpret schematics, PLC program logic, equipment manuals, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Assist other trades to the best ability when necessary.
  • Attendance at work during the regularly scheduled shift is an essential duty. This includes but is not limited to the ability to work overtime as required, to be present at work, arrive on time and be at the workstation ready for work at the start of the shift.
  • Follow industry safety standards including LOTO, Zero Energy State, ESA,
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Communicate shift activities to the Assistant Maintenance Manager and Production (off shift) Coordinator as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order within work area(5S).
  • Other duties as may be required.
  • May be required to provide Maintenance assistance on off shift or weekends.

Work Environment/Health and Safety:

  • Use or wear personal protective equipment or clothing required in order to perform the job tasks safely.
  • Report to his/her Team Leader/Supervisor/Manager the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective devices of which he/she is aware, and which may endanger him/herself or another worker.
  • Report to his/her Team Leader/Supervisor/Manager any contravention of the Occupational Health & Safety Act or the regulations or the existence of any hazard of which he/she knows.
  • Fast-paced work environment.
  • Be aware of all posted warnings and hazards of all surrounding machinery.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 polices and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Ontario or Inter-Provincial (442A/309A/Red Seal) Electrician Certificate of Qualification is required.
  • Experience with PLC - Ladder Logic, VFD and Industrial automation to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • 3-5 years experience in the following areas: equipment repairs, improvements, and upgrades, new equipment installations, preventive maintenance, knowledge, and experience with installing, troubleshooting, and repairing programming logic controllers (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi).
  • Competency in troubleshooting HMI’s and variable frequency drives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills related to troubleshooting equipment issues; preferably in a fast-paced manufacturing/industrial environment.
  • Experience in performing preventative maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross functional team members.
  • Effective communicator with associates at all levels.
  • Identify and report hazards and fulfill all Health & Safety, WHMIS, MSDS, and GMP policy requirements.
