SUMMARY

The Town of Ponoka is recruiting for an energetic, trusted and experienced Manager of Human Resources with proven experience and dedication to supporting and promoting a thriving positive culture.

This position oversees all of the Town’s Human Resource operations and processes, providing support to all levels of the organization. Directly reporting to the General Manager of Corporate Services, the position consults, advises, develops and monitors overall human resource strategies, systems and programs to optimize efficiencies, relationships and performance.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement HR programs, procedures and initiatives that align with the Strategic Plan and operational goals.
  • Bridge and support management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances, or other issues.
  • Manage the recruitment, selection, orientation, and retention process.
  • Support current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation and preservation of human capital resources.
  • Develop and monitor overall HR strategies, systems, tactics and procedures across the organization.
  • Nurture a positive working environment to optimize talent, structure, process and culture.
  • Oversee and support performance management, including annual reviews.
  • Manage pay and benefits programs, including statutory requirements and disability management.
  • Assess training needs, apply and monitor training programs.
  • Lead bargaining negotiations for multiple union and out-of-scope contracts.
  • Participate in maintaining the Health and Safety Program, including supporting operations to ensure all staff comply with health and safety training;
  • Ensure legal compliance throughout human resources management.
  • Provide decision support through sound HR metrics.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven working experience as HR Manager or other HR executive.
  • Demonstrated experience with Human Resources metrics.
  • Ability to develop strategy and lead implementation.
  • In-depth knowledge of employment and labour legislation and HR best practices.
  • Degree in Human Resources or related field, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • People oriented and results-driven.
  • Excellent active listening, negotiation and presentation skills.

RECRUITMENT

Salary: Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.
