We currently have a Temporary Full Time (until approx. June 2024) opportunity for a Manager in the Vascular Doppler Lab – Schulich Heart Program at our Bayview campus.


Hours of Work: Weekdays: Days; 10 hours; as per schedule


Summary of Duties:

The Vascular Lab Manager provides support to the Vascular Service through management of initiatives related to sonography, education, hiring, training, program planning and quality improvement (0.5 FTE). The Manager is also the Technical Lead who works with the Vascular Surgeons to maintain a high standard of care in the lab. They must have a strong clinical background in vascular and be a registered Vascular Technologist who performs a full-array of non-invasive Doppler and Duplex diagnostic studies to evaluate the presence, location and physiological extent of vascular disease (0.5 FTE).

Reporting Structure

  • The Vascular Lab Manager will have direct accountability to the Operations Director, Schulich Heart Program and the Medical Director, Vascular Lab.
  • The manager will be a member of the leadership team in the Schulich Heart Program.

Responsibilities

Operational Manager (0.5fte) Responsibilities

  • Manages operational activities and fiscal resources (budget, spending, cost savings, equipment, supplies, timesheet)
  • Responsible for program development, innovation and planning (including all policies and procedures) and quality improvement.
  • Organize and lead monthly Education rounds; convey monthly lab updates with QI.
  • Recruitment, training, scheduling and performance management of staff.
  • Participate in relevant committees (Schulich Operations, Program Council, Ambulatory Care)
  • Hospital Accreditation for Ambulatory Clinics.

Technical Lead ((0.5fte) Responsibilities

  • Proficient Vascular Sonographer with professionalism to provide accurate patient diagnosis and compassionate patient care.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging and non-imaging vascular studies including Peripheral Arterial and Venous, Extracranial Cerebrovascular, Abdominal Aorta, EVAR, Stents, Dialysis, Raynaud’s, TOS, etc
  • Teach new staff, residents and students.
  • Maintain current Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) Vascular Testing Accreditation in Cerebrovascular, Peripheral Arterial and Peripheral Venous areas to ensure high level of testing, quality and accuracy are maintained.

Quality Improvement

  • Lead in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities within the Program.
  • Provide direction to support the development and implementation of policies and clinical best practice guidelines to provide best patient care.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in health-related field.
  • Minimum 4-5 years’ experience in a hospital based clinical setting – clinical expertise and experience in vascular required.
  • Registration and in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO).
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) and/or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS or CRVS).
  • Registration with Sonography Canada and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
  • CPR Certification
  • Experience in the use of computers and appropriate software (Excel, Word, Access, lab reporting etc).
  • Excellent attention to detail; problem-solving skills and conflict management skills.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate for improvements in patient care.
  • Ability to interact with all members of the team and administrative staff in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Excellent collaboration and team building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task effectively and time management skills.
  • Excellent attendance record.
