Who we are:

Saysutshun (Newcastle) Island Marine Provincial Park is a family friendly park, accessible only by foot passenger ferry or boat with 18 private campsites, 5 group sites, 42 mooring buoys, 60 Moorage slips at the marina, concession, event hall, kayak and bike rentals and 22 km of trails and beaches. With breathtaking views of the Coastal Mountains, and the Harbour City, the island offers a unique natural, historical, and cultural experience for visitors.

The island is accessible by passenger ferry or private boat. The ferry, run by Newcastle Island Ferry Service, is a ten-minute ride from Maffeo Sutton Park in downtown Nanaimo. It runs every half hour, every day from 9am to 9pm during peak season.

Reports to: Saysutshun Manager/Guest Services Manager.

The Marine Attendant is responsible for the day-to-day revenue collection on the Docks, Mooring Buoys, Ferry ticket sales.

General Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • To contribute to ensuring the Permit area is safe, clean, and functional.
  • To maintain the facilities and assets on Saysutshun (Newcastle Island).
  • To educate the public on BC Park Regulations and fees.
  • Record and report all Occurrences and Complaints.
  • Collect all Revenue and issue occupancy permits to overnight visitors.

Specific Responsibilities (but not limited to):

· Ferry ticket sales and crowd control.

· Revenue Collection and issue overnight permits for the campground, docks and buoys:

  • Light cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Site check ins and porter service.
  • Maintain garbage and recycling receptacles
  • Ensure safety of Public/Ferry Docks.
  • Maintain Information Shelters and Signs
  • ensure safe loading and unloading of passengers and cargo.
  • Greet Tours and Groups arriving at Saysutshun.

Requirements:

· First Aid Level 1 (Preferred)

· Criminal Record Check

· Class 5 Drivers License

· Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

· SVOP or personal watercraft license. (Preferred)

· Ability to commit from June 15th to September 15th

· Great Customer Service Skills.

Job Types: Full-time, Seasonal
