Composites Instructor

1 position: Shelter Island Marina, Richmond BC

Quadrant Marine Institute is looking for the right career-minded people to join our growing Marine Service training team from our Vancouver, BC location. These positions are key roles in our training program and will involve mentorship for our apprentices at various levels. Applicants should be passionate about training the next generation of Skilled Trades people. Preference will be given to Journeyperson MST or those who successfully challenge the trade.

Overview of Roles & Responsibilities

For successful applicants in Instructor positions;

Delivering Marine Service Technician curriculum specific to composites in a hybrid format – online theory with in-person workshops.

Engaging adult learners and completing Quadrant training for trades instructors.

Working with core team to ensure a safe and effective learning environment representative of the local industry.

Instructor Required Qualifications

Minimum 10-years’ experience in the small craft recreational and light commercial marine industry in building, maintaining, refit, or repairing of vessels/systems. Equivalent combination of time and experience will be considered.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to direct, guide and supervise students and teaching assistants.

Ability to work evenings with some weekdays and weekends during the Sept to April training season.

Some travel for remote training required.

Composites Instructor Required Qualifications

Broad experience in composites and demonstrated professional competence.

Mechanical aptitude for operation, maintenance and repair of shop machinery and equipment.

Practical knowledge of a wide variety of composite systems, tools, materials, and technique used in boatbuilding, refit, and repair.

Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in the use and operation of shop equipment and tools and the safe handling of paints, resins, glass, solvents and chemicals.

Work Experience & Other Assets for the Team

Having intermediate level computer literacy e.g., Zoom.

Experience with Learning Management Systems e.g., Moodle, and Student Information Systems would be an asset.

Experience teaching trades, adult learners, & mentoring apprentices would all be important assets.

Love of sailing, racing, cruising, and the spirit of marine tradition are all beneficial!

Our program is currently based in Nanaimo, Sidney and Vancouver; our graduates proudly hold BC Marine Service Technician journeyperson credentials.

Our training reach extends across the traditional lands and waters of many BC First Nations especially the W̱SÁNEĆ and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) peoples. We serve and collaborate with people who live and work in many other places and we acknowledge the traditional owners and caretakers of those lands and waters.
