The Material Technician has a physically strenuous and demanding job which requires great physical activity; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.

Shift: Evening Shift from 2:45 pm to 11:15 pm (Monday to Friday)

General Duties

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, this position has overall responsibility for all Material related tasks within the molding operation of Melet Plastics. Specific responsibilities include:

1. Ensure all machines running do not run out of material prior to end of run. Communicate with Cell leaders to see if any parts running were bumped up to ensure we do not run out of material.

2. Prepare material mixes for machines as specified by work orders. Ensure timely arrival of raw materials to molding machines as delegated by the Supervisor.

3. At shift start, do a tour of the plant and check schedule for all upcoming mold changes. Communicate with the material handler from the next shift any concerns or problems that may have to be addressed or monitored. Clean all filters on driers and vacuum loaders on a daily basis (this is based on material, for some materials, the filters need to be cleaned out more frequently) Fill out daily shift start check list PRO-f3034 to its entirety.

4. Set up vacuum loaders, one shot loaders or any other material related aux. equipment BOM.as specified by the work order.

5. Add grinders at process when indicated on the BOM and promptly grind up sprues/runners and any scrap and mix back in to process to avoid left over regrind at the end of the run. Regrind is to be used at a percentage indicated on the work order. All regrind barrels are to be emptied as needed throughout the shift and at the end of each shift.

6. Clean out material hoppers, grinders and driers in preparation for the next production run.

7. If the work order states the material is to be dried, check that there is a drier available and that the material can be put in with sufficient time to dry (if not notify supervisor). Dry material at conditions indicated on the work order.

8. Perform work in accordance with applicable work instructions, work orders and quality control sheets (includes duties stated for mold change responsibilities).

9. Fill out material handler section on the Production set up sheet at machine start up to ensure nothing was missed during set up.

10. Label all material that is placed into bags, pails or gaylords.

11. Check to see if there is any regrind on the shelf that can be used for upcoming production runs.

12. Color feeders must be emptied at the end of the run and the concentrate returned to inventory.

13. Inspect equipment frequently and initiate repairs necessary for any damaged or broken equipment and ensure equipment is locked out

14. Keep all concentrates and materials neatly organized and clearly identified.

15. Work with shift Supervisors to maintain an accurate inventory.

16. Stage and clear materials in IQMS, using bar code system and scan guns.

17. Initiate corrective action(s) in the event of a nonconformance (i.e. material contamination, wrong material used).

18. Ensure that all bins, gaylords and materials are covered or properly sealed.

19. Ensure volatile materials are kept separately.

20. Ensure all colored magnets (where applicable) are being used on the dryers and hoppers.

21. Calibrate concentrate feeders as per calibration instructions.

22. Ensure on Friday all timers are set for Sunday night start up.

23. Ensure all test paper work is filled out correctly.

24. Must have a forklift operator’s license and operate a forklift when necessary to perform specific duties related to movement of materials.

25. Ensure you are wearing PPE required when needed and following all safety procedures and guidelines.

26. Rectify any safety issues and if not able to do so immediately inform Shift Lead or Supervisor. IE: Broken Skids, skids on the side, blocked fire exits, blocked fire extinguishers, water puddles, low or out of safety supplies etc. etc. etc.

27. Maintain cleanliness at work area(s) throughout shift and perform required end of shift clean-up (5 S system for workplace organization and cleanliness).

28. Ensure dust collection unit is emptied once per shift.
