Job Description Summary

Are you looking to use your engineering experience in a purpose-driven role? As a Mechanical Engineer, you will contribute to the design and development of mechanical and electro-mechanical laboratory automation systems from initial concept to manufacturing, launch and maintenance throughout the product life cycle. This position is integral in driving the technological innovation and continuous improvement of processes within the Instrumentation Business Unit at STEMCELL Technologies.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical design, development and testing of new laboratory automation systems, sub-systems and consumables, working under general supervision

  • Carry out in-house prototype builds

  • Draw up test plans and perform testing of mechanical designs and subsystems, with limited input

  • Develop systems to specifications and verify performance as directed

  • Present and make recommendations at design reviews on areas that affect the product life cycle such as manufacturing, service, regulations, troubleshooting, upgrades and backwards compatibility, competing technology and obsolescence

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience

  • Hands on experience with prototyping, fabrication, and finishing techniques for plastics, metals and non-metals would be an asset

  • Familiarity with injection molding process would be an asset

  • Strong Communication (oral, written, presenting) and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams

  • Submission of past work/design portfolio is encouraged
