Heidelberg Materials is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Co-Op Student to join our team in Sechelt, BC. As a Mechanical Engineer Co-Op Student you will assist with supporting our Sechelt sand and gravel operation in Sechelt, B.C. for a 4 or 8-month co-op work term beginning in either January or May. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position supports the local operations on technical matters pertaining to maintenance, capital and improvement projects, and site development.

What You'll Get To Do:

  • Support operations staff in maintenance planning and mechanical design
  • Develop and maintain maintenance department files (e.g. drawings, checklists, maintenance history)
  • Coordinate the monitoring, evaluation and modification of the preventative, predictive and proactive maintenance programs to ensure maximum equipment uptime and efficient use of resources
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and audit of the preventative maintenance program
  • Aide in purchase of parts, tools and maintenance supplies
  • Maintain and keep the site equipment records up to date
  • Hire and manage independent contractors; provide safety orientation to visitors and contractors
  • Help collect equipment costs, prepare project scopes and budgets

What We Are Looking For:

  • A demonstrated interest in safety improvement opportunities
  • Working toward a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Computer proficiency MS office. AutoCAD and Solid Modeling considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills
  • Good observation, critical thinking and analysis skills
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Must have own transportation
