Position: Outdoor Youth Leader – Summer Student

Reports to: Youth Services Supervisor

Position Function:

Reporting to the Youth Services Supervisor, you will be responsible for assisting all activity and program-related needs for youth aged 11-18 throughout the summer months. The Youth Leader ensures excellence in program delivery by volunteers and students. Programs will be a mixture of in-person and virtual content. Bring your energy, compassion, and experience in working with youth to a fun and dynamic team environment.

Organization Summary:

The youth leader role reports directly to Youth Services program manager while working with BGC Lethbridge Youth Centre team.

Working Relationships:

The Youth Leader role works with each member of the Youth Services team to deliver high quality services at the BGC Lethbridge & District.

Work Performed:

· Supervise and help manage youth and volunteers in all aspects of program delivery

· Work with youth to ensure we are meeting their specific needs and provide them with ongoing club support.

· Provide positive mentorship to all youth in programs at BGC Lethbridge & District

· Provide resources, supports, and crisis intervention to youth who access our services

· Assist in planning programs and activities suitable to youths needs

· Lead activities and various youth programs

· Assist in promoting youth related programs through social media, video, outreach, and volunteer fairs

· Adhere to all club policies and procedures

Minimum Qualifications:

Meet Canada Summer Jobs Employee Criteria:

· Be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.

· Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.

· Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

· Strong commitment to young people and an understanding of the factors affecting their lives

· Ability to provide reliable support to young people in times of stress and act with integrity

· Good organizational and leadership skills

· An accepting and non-authoritarian approach

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish good relationships with young people and adults

· Patience, tolerance and flexibility

· A sense of adventure and willingness to try new things

· Formal communication skills for presentations, and report writing

· Ability to treat young people's concerns with respect, tact and sensitivity, whilst always being aware of the limits that are required by confidentiality and the necessary professional boundaries

· A great deal of resilience and contagious energy

· Training such as suicide intervention, crisis intervention, first response, etc. are an asset but can be provided

· CPR/First Aid

  • Contributes to positive staff morale
  • A positive relationship with youth is formed
  • Youth are engaged in the programming and participate effectively with others
  • Youth provide positive feedback regarding programming
  • Completes tasks and assignments on-time and in-line with expectations

Job Types: Full-time, Casual

Salary: $17.50 per hour
