Prominent Law Firm in Windsor is seeking a paralegal assistant for a part-time temporary position, covering for someone on leave of absence. However, there is room for growth, with the potential for a permanent position and promotions within the firm. (See other postings for permanent paralegal position).

The successful candidate should have completed a minimum of 2 semesters in an accredited Paralegal Program (excluding law clerks or legal secretaries - this is a paralegal assistant position) and possess excellent skills in in-house drafting, correspondence, negotiations, and other similar tasks, with the ability to work independently.

The position also offers an opportunity for career advancement, and the successful candidate will be highly motivated, resourceful, and capable of working collaboratively with current paralegals, office administration, and lawyers.

Job description:

The initial job duties the Employee will be expected to perform will be the following:

  • Opening & Closing of client files, in accordance with LSO guidelines;
  • Draft documents as needed (Including but not limited to: Landlord and Tenant Board notices, pleadings, affidavits, memos, correspondence, and etc.)
  • Maintain current Court procedures & timelines
  • In-person & Electronic Court Filing
  • Act as a liaison with clients, opposing counsel, and necessary third party
  • Managing the physical and electronic client files in accordance with firm policies and procedures
  • Docketing time daily, and maintaining accurate billing records
  • Occasional service of documents
  • Maintaining workspace in neat and tidy order
  • Notary public or commissioner signatures if licensed to provide this service.

Minimum Requirements:

  • The candidate has successfully completed a minimum of 2 semesters in an accredited Paralegal Program
  • 1Year of office experience (reception, law clerk, secretarial, etc.)
  • Prior Law Office Experience
  • Ability to draft legal documents
  • Advanced knowledge of legal principals and terms
  • Excellent Drafting Skills

Job Type: Part-time
Part-time hours: 15 per week

Salary: $16.30-$18.30 per hour

Flexible Language Requirement:

  • French not required

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • On call

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Windsor, ON N8S 1R1: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
