Reporting to the Director, Libraries and Academic Success, the incumbent will assist in the planning, coordinating, implementing, organizing, monitoring, and evaluation of Georgian’s military-connected campus strategy. The incumbent is responsible for the outreach to military-connected students, coordinating on- and off-campus military-connected student activities, helping military-connected students navigate the postsecondary landscape and attending military-connected student events. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Collecting and analyzing student data as it relates to the college’s definition of a military-connected student, and disseminating information to appropriate academic areas, student services, and project co-chairs
  • Acting as a liaison and resource in the planning, development and implementation of programming designed to encourage recruitment and retention of military-connected students
  • Investigating military occupational job standards to complete program specific Prior Learning Assessment Recognition (PLAR) and associated professional leadership training
  • Leading and providing input into the development of marketing material (website/video/social media) content supporting the military connected strategy
  • Acting as the first point of contact and subject matter expert:
    • As a member of various college-wide committees to represent military-connected students concerns
    • For employees when there are questions or guidance required with respect to military matters
    • For military-connected potential employees and assisting in submitting inquiries about employment opportunities to appropriate departments
    • For potential and current military-connected students providing academic and student services information that aligns with Georgian’s Promise to Military-Connected students
  • Assessing and, where required, triaging/escalating complex and sensitive student concerns to manager or other student service areas or project leads
  • Monitoring and maintaining the military-connected mailbox
  • Developing and conducting military-connected workshops for the Georgian community
  • Conducting outreach to other colleges and institutions to continually innovate and evolve the military-connected strategy
  • Supporting visits from VIP guests (Base Commander, Government ministers) as they relate
  • Attending Second Career Assistance Network (SCAN) and networking with military external representatives
  • Coordinating and implementing campus-based focused events including the Barrie Campus Remembrance Day ceremony, outreach efforts at Base locations and other related promotional events while working closely with the Georgian College Military Veterans Club

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successfully completed a two-year postsecondary diploma or a training equivalent such as Officer Development Period (DP2)
  • A minimum of three years’ lived experience in a military-connected environment
  • Familiarity and knowledgeable of provincial postsecondary education guidelines, Department of National Defence, Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans Affairs Canada, and SISIP Manulife educational policies
  • Proven interpersonal communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse team of contributors and college partners
  • Demonstrated experience working in adult training institutions and instructional experience is an asset
  • Individual must have competency in MS Office based software: Word, Excel and PowerPoint
