Reporting to the Supervisor of Human Resources, the Payroll and Benefits Administrator will manage a full range of Payroll and Benefits functions. You will be responsible for processing the bi-weekly Canadian hourly union and non-union, and salaried employees in a multi-unit organization in a timely and accurate manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing timesheets and other pay documents for accuracy, completeness, and authorization in accordance with company policies
  • Coordinating payroll activities to ensure all pay data is compiled, processed, and reconciled in an accurate and timely manner to meet all payroll deadlines
  • Executing payroll transactions utilizing ADP including transmitting, processing, and generating payroll runs and creating associated journal entries
  • Explaining procedures and responding to or investigating regarding all aspects of payroll and benefits enquiries from employees, managers
  • Working collaboratively with the human resources team on the administration of new hires and terminations; preparing and maintaining employee master files; processing employee status changes, calculating termination pay, and preparing ROEs
  • Enrolling and terminating employees on the various benefit plans
  • Reconciling all statutory requirements, deductions, and other payroll-related accounts
  • Calculating, deducting, reconciling, and remitting amounts ordered to be withheld through garnishment, third party demand, or support deduction orders
  • Reporting and remitting assessable earnings and premiums to the various Workers’ Compensation Boards in Canada
  • Providing compensation information to various insurance bodies
  • Union reporting and remittances
  • Processing year-end adjustments to meet CRA deadlines (T-4’s)
  • Prepare and distribute various payroll reports
  • Manage all self-billing of benefits for associates on Leave
  • Balancing and reconciling Benefits through the payroll program
  • Processing all benefit premium billing statements
  • Reconcile benefits-related G/L accounts monthly
  • Administration of the Beachcomber benefit plan within the payroll system
  • Assist in other HR functions as required
  • Other duties/projects as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years Payroll Administration experience in a unionized environment (Canadian Payrolls)
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation for Canada
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with ADP payroll and time and attendance systems are an asset
  • PCP designation or working towards the designation
  • Experienced in dealing with employee issues in a professional and discrete manner, responding to employee questions and concerns regarding payroll
  • Strong computer skills with sound experience of MS office i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with employees
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Accounting knowledge is considered an asset
