SCHEDULE: 8 hour Days/Evenings shifts (subject to change)
SALARY: $28.79 -$29.98 per hour

Duties and Responsibilites:

Will be required to work primarily in the Emergency Department in a high-paced and demanding environment to support client centred care to individuals waiting for triage, assessment, and disposition. Will be required to work Monday - Friday, with weekend and evening work possible.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree from an accredited College or University in the Human Services field.
  • Minimum three years directly related working experience with emergency department/psychiatry department.
  • Other combinations of academic training and experience will be considered (i.e. WRAP certification).
  • This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver's licence and use of a vehicle to transport clients. The successful candidate will be required to provide proof a valid driver's licence and 1 million dollar liability coverage upon hire;
  • Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past 12 months;
  • Must have "Lived Experience" of a mental illness, which includes being a recipient of mental health services.
  • Minimum 3 years working with various stakeholders to influence and develop policy and programming for client centred care.
  • Knowledge of mental health, substance use disorder, social determinants of health, and trauma.
  • Extensive knowledge of the major mental illnesses, an understanding of Mental Health Act, PHIPA, and the principles of client centred service delivery and trauma-informed care.
  • Knowledge of the principles of life skills training, focused problem solving and intervention strategies.
  • Provide one-to-one support to individuals in the Emergency Department while waiting for triage, assessment, admission/discharge disposition, modeling a positive attitude, utilizing affirmation and encouragement while integrating recovery concepts and client empowerment.
  • Provide education through one-to-one and group facilitation on a variety of issues relevant to the client group.
  • Provide life skills training, conflict resolution, and advocacy.
  • Demonstrated reliability (attendance and punctuality), communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team member.
  • Must demonstrate a strong professional manner in dealing with clients, staff, families, and the public while being open, friendly, approachable, accepting and understanding.
  • High-energy, strong attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Must possess well developed communication, organizational and coordination skills.
  • Functional knowledge of crisis intervention and assessment techniques.
  • Demonstrated group facilitation skills.

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area; and;
