Position: Part time to Full-time specialized caregiver for adult male with Down syndrome and type I diabetes. The caregiver will need to assist the individual in home setting and out in the community. Tasks include daily personal care, life skills development, promoting a positive and healthy environment (including healthy eating habits) and assisting with social and recreational activities. Experience working and understanding diabetes would be an asset. Matt is easy going, friendly and loves being out and about Enjoys movies, music, swimming, hiking, camping, shopping, dogs and cats and his many nieces, nephews and friends Key Responsibilities and Duties Driving and having a personal vehicle in good running condition is a must. Work independently with adult in his home and in the community Providing personal care, assisting with bathing, shaving, brushing teeth and dressing. Follow service plan, emergency and behaviour guidelines. Participate in community activities with the client, such as swimming and walking. Also provide opportunities to explore new activities. Ability to work as a team player in providing a safe environment House keeping duties (laundry, making beds, dusting, vacuuming , cleaning rooms etc. as this job is in Matthew’s own suite. Qualifications: Knowledge and experience working with people with developmental disabilities. Understanding or willingness to learn about diabetes considered an asset. Diploma in healthcare aid/residential care aide, or human services an asset or an equal combination of education and experience.
