Process Safety Engineer Job at Shell
The Role
The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for all aspects of process safety for several operating units at the Sarnia Manufacturing Centre.The process safety engineer works closely with Operations, Engineering, Technology, and Maintenance personnel to address site process safety issues, review unit changes, facilitate process safety reviews, and support projects in their assigned unit.Finally, the process safety engineer serves as a site focal for key process safety management work processes.
Employees at the Sarnia Manufacturing Centre follow a hybrid work model, where employees work 3 days a week in the office with the option to work the remaining days of the week from home. Additionally, employees at Sarnia follow an alternative work schedule where employees receive every 3rd Friday off of work.
Accountabilities:
- Provide day to day process safety support for units in their area of responsibility
- Serve as the process safety reviewer for changes in their area of responsibility
- Co-ordinate and participate in all process safety studies in their area of responsibility and facilitate some of these reviews.
- Study, assess, and resolve long term process safety threats in their area of responsibility
- Acts as site subject matter expert for their assigned process safety management work process, which includes, attending network meetings, updating site procedures, and communicating to site personnel on work process changes
- Develop and implement tactics to improve their assigned work processes
- Potential on-call support for an Emergency Operations Center role
Skills & Requirements
- Minimum 7+ years of working experience in a related field; Refinery and chemical experience is a plus.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Process Safety.
- Engineering degree in Chemical or Mechanical; Must have a P.Eng
- Knowledge of applying industry standards such as API, ASME, NFPA, CSA
- Familiarity with and industrial risk management tools (e.g. PHAPro, HAZOP, LOPA, consequence modelling) is an asset
- Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
