Product Engineer
KSR International Inc.

KSR has an immediate opening for a Product Engineer. The successful candidate will support the Advanced Development Team by planning and leading the design and development of customer projects/products and the R&D of new materials and technologies. The Product Engineer will also assist the Tooling engineers and Process Engineering with optimizing design and builds.

Location
This is a Hybrid Position for KSR’s Southfield, Michigan, USA, Ridgetown, Ontario, Canada, or Opava, Czechia. The successful Candidate must be able to work on-site as required and reside in the province or state of a KSR Locations.

Qualifications
  • Community College Diploma or University Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 4 years’ experience in Automotive Product Engineering
Language
  • English required. Mandarin, German, Czech, Spanish beneficial

Job Responsibilities
  • Generate and update product quality documents such as DFMEA’s, SC/CC, D/PVP&R’s and reliability documentation.
  • Develop Internal Product Specific Specifications/Standards.
  • Develop and generate designs, design ideas and/or guidelines for products in accordance with customer SDS and ES requirements.
  • Ensure product design and validation in accordance with Engineering specifications/Test requirements.
  • Create D/PVP&R’s based on engineering specifications. Interpret and report on product validation results.
  • Design product for ease of manufacture, low cost, high performance, optimal sound quality and reduced failure modes.
  • Works with CAD Designers on design strategy, review CAD, GD&T and to make decisions on product design and gauge direction.
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure design direction meets product design and manufacturing needs/requirements (DFM).
  • Complete mathematical calculations including but not limited to spring design, stress analysis, ratios, gear reductions, tolerance stack-ups, WCCA etc.
  • Analyze/review CAE to ensure proper constraints and optimize design.
  • Develop and perform studies to validate theoretical stack-up analysis.
  • Review, analyze and sign-off prints to ensure tolerance limits meet product requirements.
  • Review prints to ensure key characteristics are identified with proper callouts on critical/high impact to product requirements.
  • Participate in build-up and assembly of product during prototype build events.
  • Analyze product for failures and provide root cause analysis/corrective actions of failures.
  • Responsible for directing the specific product design details.
  • Provides engineering direction/support to suppliers.
  • Works with Program Manager to understand key program timing milestones. (Design Freeze, Tool Kickoff, Prototype Delivery, Testing, PTR, PPAP)
  • Product Engineer initiates Business Process for release including pulling of BP#, filling out description and reason for change. Product Engineer will ensure product designers provide complete BOM’s, CAD and Print packages to get Program manager Approval.
  • Participate in gauge reviews with manufacturers to ensure quality gauge design. (i.e., meets the intent of print, variable vs. attribute, proper clamping, etc.)
  • Participate in linkage reviews in the creation of PFMEA’s and Control Plan’s.
  • Communicate design characteristics/requirements to manufacturing & co-ordinate design and build-up of assembly equipment, tools, gages, and fixtures. (App/Man Specs)
  • Support review of layout data and ensure parts meet required functional characteristics.
  • Work with testing dept to ensure apparatus and Methods meet requirements as defined in the D/PVP&R.
  • Provide support to KSR production plants during product launches, engineering changes and design issues through the product life to ensure products meet their functional requirements (“Protect the Product”).
  • General working Understanding of tools/equipment used in their field to support engineering (Ex. Multi meters, Oscilloscopes, Soldering Irons, etc.)
  • Review warranty findings and Implement design actions where necessary.
  • Perform ongoing design critique of current products to improve performance, quality, cost, or manufacturability.
Miscellaneous Requirements:
  • Participate in competitive product benchmarking activities.
  • Support MCR (Material Cost Reduction) activities both internally and externally.
  • Intellectual property and patent research/investigation/tracking/collection and creation
  • Support R&D reporting for responsible projects annually.
