Overview:Reporting directly to the General Manager East of Lafarge’s GVA Ready-Mix Business Unit, the Plant Maintenance and Projects Manager (PMPM) is responsible for maintaining all fixed plant operations across the East and West Regions. This includes asset management, maintenance planning, execution, and budgeting in both the short and long term horizons. This role requires leadership and direct management of all GVA RMX Unionized Millwright maintenance personnel across GVA.
This role will also be responsible for delivery of capital projects relating to plant upgrades and special projects, as well as developing and submitting the capital budget proposals.

*Position Summary*
The PMPM is responsible for ensuring that all plants are maintained in a safe, environmentally compliant, and reliable manner, to ensure Lafarge can manufacture quality and quantity of Ready-Mix Concrete that is required by the daily market demand.
The incumbent is expected to plan maintenance schedules with key stakeholders, and develop maintenance strategies to ensure business objectives are achieved.
The PMPM will also personally lead capital projects, from feasibility and early stage planning, through to final project execution.
Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate through both actions and words the paramount importance of Safety, both internally and externally, by a strict adherence to all relevant safety policies and procedures.
  • In conjunction with the other department leads, promotes and supports the local strategy of growth and sustainability.
  • Manages Maintenance personnel to maintain assets while meeting business objectives
  • Participates in the development and refinement of standard operating procedures for the Quality Maintenance department.
  • Identifies, investigates, and justifies key strategic capital proposals to enhance operational safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
  • Manages capital improvement projects to adhere to budget and schedule.
  • Supports and promotes strategically critical change management initiatives by demonstrated actions and face-to-face meetings
  • Participates in complete investigations of complex customer issues, including root cause analysis, problem resolution, and Lessons Learned process changes.
  • Participates in developing and implementing continuous improvement processes and strategies for the maintenance departments.
  • Participates in the Development of the Plant Maintenance Department Budget. Monitors, Analyzes, and Explains budget variances.
  • Partners with procurement team to delivery exceptional value
  • Leads vendor selection process for capital projects and maintenance department
  • Collaboratively partakes in the recruitment, selection, performance management, training and development, and discipline of all direct reports.
  • Actively supports Labour Relation initiatives to improve financial results and foster an enhancement in employee engagement.

  • Actively support continuous improvement of safety results.
  • Provide proactive suggestions to support progressive results in collective bargaining.
  • Support change initiatives throughout the organization.

Dimensions / Relationships with Others’ Jobs

  • Interfaces closely and supports Safety, Environment, both General Managers of GVA Ready Mix regions, Plant Managers, Operations Manager, Customer Care Manager.
  • Directly supervises up to 5 unionized maintenance personnel.
  • 9 ready mix plants across the Greater Vancouver Area including Fraser Valley.
  • Regional capital expenditures spend which fluctuates based on ongoing proposals

Qualifications:Education and Work Experience

  • University degree in Business Management, Operations, Engineering or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of management/supervisory experience in a Unionized environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years concrete ready mix experience or equivalent.
  • Prior management of plant maintenance
  • Proficient abilities in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
