Job Purpose

The Quality Control Lead is primarily responsible for the supervision and delegation of duties to the Quality Control team while working in coordination with the project quality deliverables to ensure that client specifications, code requirements and contractual agreements are met and upheld.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development of direct reports; overseeing and coordinating daily prioritization of tasks taken on by the Quality Control staff;
  • Train QC Administrators on internal processes such as; relining drawings, requesting NDE, creating hydro test packages, creating shipping documentation, populating turnover binders, submitting documentation to subcontractors for billing, scanning final documentation;
  • Train QC Inspectors on internal processes such as; spool drawing checklist sign off, ensuring all checklist items are adequately verified prior to sign off, flagging identification systems (NDE, pwht, hydro test, ready to ship, repairs, etc.), properly filling out QC documentation (parameters, flange face report, inspection report, QC spool drawings, etc.), communicating quality requirements with office (NDE, repairs, deficiencies, etc.).
  • Responsible for the maintenance of direct reports; reviewing and approving daily timesheets, approving time off requests;
  • Communicate and coordinate with Academy internal stakeholders to ensure smooth flowing processes;
  • Manage priorities with Shop Foremen;
  • Liaise with the Projects department to ensure contractual agreements and scheduling are met;
  • Work with Materials management to inspect fittings and pipe to ensure all components are acceptable to manufacture and client requirements.
  • Identify need for additional manpower and communicate recruitment needs to Management and HR.
  • Develop relationships with external stakeholders; work directly with client representatives to ensure project requirements are being met and exceeded; assist in resolving client issues, direct subcontractors as required (NDE technicians, post weld heat treatment, coating and paint applications);
  • Actively participate in investigating and resolving problems related to quality; implement corrective actions to mitigate future issues;
  • Audit and review all final documentation to ensure accuracy prior to providing it to client representatives;
  • Ensure there is alignment between the shop and office within the QC department; perform random inspections to monitor the standards being upheld by the QC Inspectors;
  • Technical understanding and knowledge of Client Specifications, applicable construction code, and Academy’s Quality Manual;
  • Create project specific welding procedure data sheets;
  • Develop and maintain internal Quality Department processes to ensure all requirements are being met and all aspects of the Quality program are flowing seamlessly. Communicate these processes to all Quality staff.
  • Provide additional support as required in all aspects of the Quality Control Department.

Requirements

  • CSA W178.2 Level 2 Quality Control Inspector or equivalent;
  • Five years’ experience in Quality Control with a strong technical background (emphasis on pipe fabrication would be an asset);
  • Computer literacy is required;
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook) is required;
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu would be considered an asset;
  • Must possess excellent communication skills for liaising and communicating with clients and internal departments;
  • Highly motivated and self-directed; capable of multitasking;
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate a diver’s team;
  • A well-defined sense on diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution and people management skills;
  • Minimum 3 years of similar experience in a fabrication shop is required;
