British Columbia Rapid Transit Company Ltd. (BCRTC) maintains and operates two of Metro Vancouver’s three SkyTrain lines. SkyTrain is the first and one of the longest, fully-automated, driverless, rapid transit systems in the world. It boasts an average on-time service performance rating of 95 per cent and moves on average 250,000 passengers per weekday.

Both the SkyTrain lines operate out of BCRTC's Operations and Maintenance Centre in Burnaby, where more than 900 dedicated staff work in the areas of administration, engineering, elevator and escalator maintenance, field operations, vehicle maintenance, and wayside (station and guideway) maintenance.

Responsibilities

Carries out First Article Inspections, maintain records and follow up with cross-functional teams, ensuring the consistent application of inspections and tests for Incoming Quality Control (IQC).


Uses tools, gauges and other appropriate instruments to perform QC inspections of vendor supplied materials.


Participates in the development and the initiation of the techniques used for inspection, testing and evaluation of incoming materials. Evaluates techniques and recommends changes.


Reviews and analyzes the results of the inspection tests and helps to determine the outcome of products that are not accepted.


Applies statistical techniques to analyze supplier performance and reports on various Supplier Quality KPI.


Connects with vendors to improve and prevent recurring quality issues through the Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) process.


Creates NCRs reports and resolves NCRs issues – interfaces with the Engineering department as required.


Completes assigned tasks to company or industry standards using approved work practices and procedures.


Supports the QC Methods Technologist when required to prepare methods packages and fill in gaps for missing documents.


Attends technical and safety training programs to continually upgrade skills.


Operates a motor vehicle with a valid BC driver’s license.


Handles emergencies and failures in accordance with established procedures through immediate response and quick action.


Performs duties as assigned, such being items of a minor nature which do not affect the value of the job.


Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


Requires a technologist diploma in a Quality, Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering discipline.


Two (2) years of experience in an engineering or technologist role, preferably with mechanical and electrical part assemblies and maintenance.


Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license.


General maintenance background knowledge is required: solid understanding of measurement techniques, assembly and overhaul methods, inspections and required tools for given tasks.


Strong problem-solving skills.


Strong written and oral communication skills.

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week.


This is a full-time temporary role for 5 months.

Rate of Pay

Wage: $44.21 per hour.
