Position Summary:
The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McGill University, the largest academic group of its kind in Canada, is seeking to recruit a research assistant with expertise in mathematical modeling of infectious diseases.
The successful applicant, working under the supervision of Dr. Mathieu Maheu-Giroux, will develop a mathematical model of HIV and HPV co-transmission, parameterize it using relevant data sources, and carefully calibrate it to epidemiological and programmatic data. Additional responsibilities include preparation of abstracts, presentations, technical documents, and manuscripts. The post holder will work closely with a team of collaborators at Imperial College London, Université Laval, and the University of Witwatersrand.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Calibrate an HIV-HPV co-transmission agent-based model to epidemiological and programmatic data.
  • Investigate different scale-up scenarios of cervical cancer screening, HPV vaccination, and HIV interventions on the burden of cervical cancer.
  • To present findings via publications in peer-reviewed journals and at conferences
  • To maintain accurate and complete records of all findings
  • To attend relevant workshops and conferences, and travel as necessary
  • To learn new skills and contribute to other projects.
Qualifications:
Suitable applicants should have a master's or doctoral (preferred) degree in infectious disease epidemiology, biostatistics, applied mathematics, computer science, or in an equivalent quantitative discipline. Previous research experience in a related area, demonstrated ability to publish in scientific journals, and well-developed programming skills are required (with proficiency in R and C++). Knowledge of Bayesian statistics, cluster computing, and health economics is a plus.
