Tangent Design Engineering provides full product design engineering services including mechanical design, electrical and electronics design, industrial design, compliance management, computer simulations, and other related product design and commercialization services. Tangent works with clients over various industries (oil and gas, medical, commercial, light industrial) to turn concepts into commercial products or to re-engineer new models of existing commercial products.

The ideal candidate has a track record of success and can speak in detail about their technical experience and problem solving ability. Your products have been used and appreciated by customers. Ideally, you would have an appreciation/understanding of hardware to go with your firmware experience. You can quickly determine what went wrong in your designs, and how you figured out what was really going on.

You’ll join a work environment where we are dedicated to furthering your career.

Educational level: at a minimum, a bachelor of science in electronic or computer engineering. MSc. in electrical/computer engineering or related preferred.

Experience: make your case. We don’t care how few or many years you have been doing engineering, we care about what you know, the breadth of your knowledge and your ability to apply it.

Knowledge and skills:

  • You have previous professional involvement in design and testing of firmware for electronic systems – systems that were finished, that shipped, and have happy customers.
  • You have previous design experience with communication protocols, and you can discuss the pros and cons of several protocols. You have built and debugged a stack. You know how to take advantage of open-source code. You have excellent knowledge of a couple of RTOS; extra points if you have designed your own.
  • You can talk about your hard-won experience in bringing up new hardware, debugging prototype firmware, FPGA’s and drivers.
  • You have a philosophy of designing your code and test cases together and you have worked or managed a formal build environment.
  • You have stayed active and current in learning languages and design approaches.
  • Embedded Linux experience would be a bonus.

Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. We will be accepting applicants for this position for 30 days or until the position has been filled.
