Your Opportunity:

The successful candidate will provide support within the Operative Services DTC, including the operating theatres and the recovery room. Primary responsibilities include patient transportation, cleaning and restocking of the operating rooms, and the safe handling of medical equipment and sterile products but are not limited to: Assists nursing and medical staff with lifting and positioning of patients. Assists with special procedures as directed such as holding limbs for prepping and cast application, supporting patients in position for the administration of spinal anesthesia. Transporting patients to and from the department both before and after surgery. Assemble OR tables for specific surgical procedures under the direction of the surgeon and nursing staff. Handling and restocking hospital equipment and supplies. Delivering specimens/blood to and from the lab. Ensures that special medical gases are safely transported, stored and handled according to Canadian Safety Standards. Assures that biohazard is housed in appropriate container. Environmental cleaning of the Operating Room including disinfecting patient use items and equipment. Is aware of and follows WHS standards while performing duties in the work environment. Reporting concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to the Unit Managers. All duties require the ability to function as a member of the health care team with the shared goal of maintaining a hygienic, well-equipped and safe patient environment that all staff are proud to be a part of.

Description:

As a Service Worker II, you will be responsible for readying supplies, and disinfecting instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by unit staff. You will transport patients (clients, residents) and equipment to and from different units when needed and distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout units. You may also transports lab specimens, blood and blood products, clean patient care equipment and transport patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required. In addition to the duties of a Service Worker II, you will ensure that exam rooms and multipurpose rooms are accurately stocked and that specialty equipment required by the medical and nursing staff is available.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Alberta Heart & Stroke BLS Provider is required. Must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in the English language. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and manage a fast paced, demanding environment that has shifting daily priorities. Due to the nature of the physically demanding duties, the incumbent must be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team while maintaining confidential information. Must be reliable, cooperative, and demonstrate a high level of flexibility. Must have current training and experience with transporting patients and cleaning/restocking in an operating room setting. Previous knowledge and application of WHMIS is required. Knowledge of body mechanics is an asset along with a true interest in health care and the desire to help others. Experience in an equivalent position in an operating room within the last 6 months is required.
