The Role

Fortis Construction Group Inc. is seeking a Site Superintendent to oversee and manage multiple field construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for the entire supervision of a construction project; including implementing health and safety protocols, budgeting, scheduling, coordinating subtrades, ordering material, quality control, and general performance.

Job Duties & Responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Mobilizing of the project – equipment choices, site layout and site set-up, including temporary power
  • Accountable to manage workforce planning and manpower requirements, including layoff procedures of union staff.
  • Planning and implementing construction means/methods, schedules, productivity, innovations, site logistics
  • Labour relations; including interpretation and application of the collective agreement
  • Development, management and implementation of the quality, control, safety, and environment programs
  • Field administration: preparing timesheets, verifying invoices, labour quantities, packing slips, purchase orders and updating daily job diaries
  • Correspondence with owners, consultants, and trade contractors
  • Prepares correspondence, reports, forms, and specialized documents; proofreads materials for accuracy, completeness, compliance, formatting, and correct English usage, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  • Monitoring cost control and job costing, quantity reporting, forecasting, productivity
  • Reviewing and implementation of changes
  • Recording As-Built conditions
  • Organizing and coordinating all subcontractor activities (includes conducting and chairing weekly co-ordination meetings), assisting project manager with buyouts, monitoring subcontractor monthly progress invoices
  • On-site co-ordination of manpower, materials, and equipment
  • Understanding contractual responsibilities, contract documents and resolving disputes
  • Developing, monitoring, and executing of the project construction plan and schedule
  • Supervising, mentoring, coaching, and training of field personnel
  • Developing and maintaining positive client relations (owner, clients, consultants, public)
  • Project close-out: responsible for final inspections, deficiencies, warranty work and site demobilization
  • Liaising with building authorizes and regulatory agencies
  • Other related duties as assigned to meet Company objectives

Qualifications:

  • High-School Diploma
  • 5 years of proven experience as a Superintendent from project start to project close-out, overseeing ICI construction projects
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, field drawings and plans.
  • A solid understanding of all construction trades and construction techniques.
  • Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances and legislation, including OH&S regulations and Building Codes
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
  • Familiarity with Labor relations and collective agreement management.
  • First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets
  • Possess a valid drivers’ license.
