Job Description:
We are looking for a Solutions Architect

Reporting to the Director, Group Life and Health Technical Solutions, the successful talent will put the customer at the centre of everything they do, drive business value, and demonstrate this in their work. As the Solutions Architect you are a thought leader that works with your peers and owns the architectural vision for your Product area. You will develop the strategies and roadmaps that enable project delivery and application support. You value simplicity, evaluate solution option trade-offs and are unafraid to test technical constraints or business assumptions to achieve the right solution. You lead and work closely with all team members and will play an integral role in solution scoping and design with a focus on CX, EX, security, scalability and ROI (return on investment).

What you will do
  • Be an Architect Lead for a multi-year transformation initiative whose purpose is to re-invent business operations with the goals of intelligent automation and simplified CX
  • Foster a high-performance culture and add to Canada Life’s employee promise
  • Apply a challenger mindset to test and validate business requirements, assumptions, and solution options
  • Own the architectural decisions for the team and lead the technical vision and direction for the solution to achieve customer and business outcomes
  • Supports application technology research (early-stage development/prototype) in support of BU strategy
  • Trusted Technology advisor/advocate for business units that connects business and technology outcomes
  • Lead project teams in the elicitation of needs and problem statements for the creation of solutions that accommodates future architectural changes and designs
  • Author the technical design specifications of the product with a focus on end-to-end solution design ensuring alignment to enterprise architecture & strategy
  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship of the technical team, and support the Developers on complex code issues and design gaps
  • Demonstrate the ability to learn and research advanced technologies and concepts, learning new skills and software as necessary
  • Assess all risks and offer mitigation strategies, communicating impacts across multiple channels across initiatives and operations
What you will bring
  • Bachelor Computer Science / Software Engineering degree or equivalent with a minimum of 8 years of experience in complex IT environments
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative stakeholder relationships across multiple geographies and business functions
  • Ability to effectively communicate high-level concepts and solutions with Technology and Business teams and stakeholders
  • Self-starter with the ability to comfortably operate in ambiguity
  • Skilled at articulating the benefits and risks to a solution’s feasibility and functionality
Assets
  • Experience in the financial services industry or in a similar complex and regulated industry
  • Experience in, and understanding of, Scrum, Kanban and agile values and principles
  • Experience with business process modernization
  • Experience with cloud computing (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google)
  • Experience with modern Omni Channel architectures
  • Experience with Salesforce & CRM
  • Experience using Workflow and Content management technologies (e.g. Appian, IBM CP4BA/FileNet, OnBase)
  • Development experience in RDBMS, modern programming language(s) such as Java, Javascript, SQL, C# and frameworks such as .Net, services/API’s
  • Experience with Business Process Model & Notation (BPMN) and Decision Model & Notation (DMN) standards
  • Experience developing target state architectures and roadmaps
  • Certification with TOGAF 9.2, FLMI Lvl 1, ITIL, Scrum/Agile would be beneficial
