Position Summary

Reporting to the Recreation Program Coordinator, the Summer Program Leader is responsible for the day-to-day planning and implementing of an active based, safe, fun-filled and educational summer-camp program for children of various ages. The Summer Program Leader promotes the City’s commitment to diversity, inclusions and Truth and Reconciliation within the department, organization and community. Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to:
  • Planning, developing, implementing and actively participating in appropriate and age related activities.
  • Mentoring assigned Leaders in Training (LIT) to assist them with skill development and age appropriate activity plans.
  • Communicating with parents/guardians and supervisors on a daily basis.
  • Requesting, maintaining and planning for supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, caring and inclusive environment for the participants, volunteers and other camp staff.
  • Attend staff meetings and complete daily camp procedures and records (i.e., sign-in sheets, evaluations, reports).
  • Adhere to applicable responsibilities as outlined in the City of Fort Saskatchewan Health and Safety policy.

Qualifications

The successful candidates will be creative with a mature, responsible attitude, and must have strong organizational and exceptional interpersonal skills. The ability to listen and communicate constructively with children, parents and coworkers in a positive and respectful manner is essential. Candidates must have previous experience working with children of all ages. Ability to work efficiently with other team members with limited on-site supervision is required. Applicants are required to have University level studies in Education, Recreation or similar studies. Applicants will possess a valid Standard First Aid Level C with CPR and AED certification. Your commitment will be required for the entire duration of the season.

This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. The successful candidates will provide a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire.

Hours of Work: 30 – 37.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday

Duration: June 12, 2023 – August 25, 2023
