Reporting to the Superintendent, Health and Safety, the Supervisor, Safety Compliance, is a new position at our Elkview Operations. The successful candidate will ensure that safe and healthy working conditions are being maintained, utilized effectively and are being confirmed by contractor and Teck workers. You will provide mentorship and coaching to management, supervisors and workers in a style that will sustain improved safety performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Ensuring Elkview Operations meets its strategic Health and Safety Objectives in High Potential Risk Control, Occupational Health & Hygiene and Courageous Safety Leadership
  • Ensuring high potential risk mitigation is robustly implemented for projects and to ensure they are in compliance with regulation, policies and procedures
  • Supporting and maintaining the effective delivery of the sites Exposure Reduction Plan
  • Responsible for mentoring and developing Safety Coordinators, Emergency Response Coordinator and Loss Prevention Officers to establish consistency and high quality of work with respect to excellent contractor management practices
  • Provide training, technical support and functional leadership to site departments, project managers, contractor management and workers in health and safety
  • Creation and delivery of routine safety reports to project teams and contractors and demonstrating visible felt leadership
  • Supervising safety investigation practices to assess compliance with regulations and Teck policies and ensure the causes are addressed to prevent reoccurrence
  • Developing, coordinating and conducting safety training, audits and inspections, as well as maintaining Site, Business Unit and Corporate Safety Reporting requirements
  • Sustaining health and safety management program elements that support safe work
  • Contributes to the maintenance of safe working environments by regularly conducting job observations, audits, inspections and safety tours, communicating work place hazards and unsafe practices


Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years related safety experience in a mining/heavy industry setting
  • Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety
  • In depth understanding of regulations, standards and industry code applicable to jurisdiction
  • Demonstrated outstanding job observation skills and consistent track record to effectively communicate deficiencies in workplace conditions and worker behaviors, to individual workers, supervision and management
  • Project/Construction/Contractor Management experience would be an asset
  • Possession of or working towards a CRSP designation would be an asset
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office® package: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to multi-task and keep accurate records
  • Proven leadership skills
