Inclusion Langley Society is one of the largest non-profit community organizations in Langley, providing a range of supports to over 1400 children, youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1959.

What You Will Do

  • Build trust-based relationships with children, families & program staff.
  • Maintain regular communication with all members, especially families.
  • Work as a team member with centre staff to implement child specific strategies, activities and plans for inclusion upon recommendations of parents, SCD Consultants or Early Intervention Therapists. This may include assisting in the development of a child's care plan.
  • Work effectively within an integrated team to support children with diverse needs to fully participate in a childcare setting.
  • Provide physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual support for families.
  • Support the child throughout their day in childcare.
  • Assist the child through transition time, this may include positioning in adaptive equipment, behavioral intervention or diapering.
  • Work within a flexible schedule under the supervision of SCD Consultants with program staff.
  • Introduce cultural activities and materials when opportunities present themselves.
  • Complete observation, informal assessment, daily notes and reports a required.
  • Plan, implement and valuate daily activities and experiences to meet goals and objectives for children being supported.
  • Demonstrate positive child-adult interactions and ensure centre policies and procedures are upheld.
  • Attend all team meetings and staff meeting as an active participant.
  • Participate in regular professional development , research and strategies.
  • Maintain confidentiality; except in the case of abuse & neglect, which are reportable by law.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must have at least two years of experience working directly with children who have special needs.
  • Valid Emergency First Aid Certification.
  • Valid B.C. Driver's License.
  • Current ECE License to Practice, ECE Special Needs License, or enrollment in an equivalent program of study.
  • Education, training and experience an asset.
  • Ability to meet all other conditions of employment (e.g.: Proof of COVID Vaccination, Criminal Record Search, Certificate of Good Health, Food Safe Certificate, etc.).
  • Use of personal vehicle may be required.
  • Flexible schedule (Exact start and end times are dependent on childcare setting hours).
