POSITION DETAILS

Position Title: Accounting Clerk

Reports to: Manager of Finance

Department:Corporate Services

Division: Finance

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Finance, the Accounting Clerk will perform accounting duties in one or more of the following areas, property tax roll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, business licenses, utility billing, or general ledger; and performs other general and assigned administrative and accounting duties.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform accounting duties as set out in the position summary.
  • Perform clerical duties such as maintaining electronic filing and records system.
  • Produce monthly accounting reports.
  • Answer customer inquiries.
  • Prepare journal entries, trial balances and financial statements.
  • Ensure accurate processing of monthly remittances, invoice entry and customer payments.
  • Keep Finance Manager informed of potential accounting and billing problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Satisfactory background screening is required for this position including a Criminal Record Check.
  • Post Secondary Degree or Diploma in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or other related field will be considered an asset.
  • Three to five years of experience in accounts payable/accounts receivable, payroll, and general bookkeeping.
  • Experience with budget, accounting, and reporting systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Practices.
  • Experience working with regulations and legislation.
  • Perform mathematical computations accurately and quickly.
  • Extensive, experience and knowledge in dealing with accounting systems, budgets, internal controls, business planning, and asset management is desirable.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to set goals and work priorities, manage diverse projects and duties simultaneously while meeting timelines.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Professional demeanor with excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Able to work on a computer for long periods of time.
  • Required to work in a busy, open area office.
  • Required to meet a number of deadlines.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Ensure the Town of Ponoka health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices are followed in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 4 months

Salary: $27.13-$31.45 per hour
