Position Profile:
  • Consist of shunting at the Winnipeg yard or other yard locations
  • You are signing off on a 2 year contract for this position.
  • You are paid a flat rate of $650.00 per week for 4 weeks while training.
  • From week 5 to 13 you are paid $17.50/hour (if working nights you will receive an additional $2.00/hour)
  • From week 14 to 26 you are paid $19.00/hour (if working nights you will receive an additional $2.00/hour)
  • Starting week 27 you move to the full rate of $22.66/hour.
  • This position requires flexibility as you could see a day or night shift.
  • Reporting directly to the On-Duty Shunt Lead or Shunt Coordinator and indirectly to the Yard Service Supervisor.
  • Essential responsibilities are facilitating trailer flow for Winnipeg Terminal or it yards engaging in shunt team equipment readiness processes. Other general shop/yard duties may be applied.
  • Communicate effectively via iPad, email, teams and yard management log.
  • Some overtime will be required when it presents itself.
  • May be asked to assist other departments when workflow slows down.
  • May be asked to cover at any of our current customers without notice within your ability level.
  • Flexible schedule, available for dispatch 24 days out of the month including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays
Candidate Profile:
  • Hold a full MELT Certified Class 1 Licence and obtained it within the last 6 months
  • Have held a valid Canadian Class 5/G Licence for a minimum of 1 year
  • Have had no preventable accidents within the past year and no more than two moving violations within the previous two years to be accepted; this includes speeding, improper moves, seatbelt fines, etc.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Well organized and possess excellent customer service skills
  • Comfortable with and willing to use iPad technology for emailing, texting and entering data.
  • Reliable, flexible and punctual
