Remote Work:

This posiiton is an hybrid position; 2 days in office / 3 days working remotely.


Our WestJet Group is seeking a Revenue Accountant reporting to our Accounting Controllers Group.


This individual can demonstrate a high standard of excellence, enjoys challenges, and is results-driven. The incumbent must be highly motivated and demonstrate the ability to use initiative and manage time effectively. The role is Calgary based, and a hybrid role – work from home and office.


This role requires intermediate to advanced use of Excel for purposes of invoicing and trend analysis and is expected to execute accounting skills during month-end processes to accurately record journal entries and perform account reconciliations. In addition, this role will accomplish projects relating to automation and efficiency within the Revenue Accounting team by setting personal objectives as well as working towards team and departmental objectives.


Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for managing and coordinating all activities related to sales and revenue transactions, commission, accounting, and reconciliations at month end
  • Prepare, coordinate and compile supporting documentation for accurate invoicing where required
  • Assist in the month-end close process, including the preparation of month-end journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and investigating anomalies
  • Build and maintain partnerships with critical internal and external stakeholders to ensure financial activities run smoothly and efficiently
  • Prepare, review, and generate financial and operational data analysis / reports for monthly and quarterly updates, and research accounting issues
  • Manage the different Forms of Payment portfolio – UATP, Gift Card, Credit vouchers, Credit Card and Debit Card settlements
  • Understand ticketing reservation systems and be the liaison person with the reservation team
  • Participate in and lead projects relating to process efficiencies and automation for Revenue Accounting team and in collaboration with other Business groups – Treasury, Charter, Travel Support Team, Customer Care, and Contact Centre
  • Provide expertise on ticketing and proration, to guide and support internal business partners
  • Prepare required documentation as required, including internal controls identification, development, and compliance

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in an accounting role with progressive levels of responsibility
  • Education: completion or working towards completion of a professional accounting designation preferred (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA)
  • Airline experience, including knowledge of ticketing/booking/proration processes considered an asset
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Proficiency in Excel (advanced), Word, PowerPoint, Power BI, and other MS office products
  • Proficiency in JD Edwards, Ticketing Reservation and Accounting systems is an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal)
  • High degree of diplomacy and good judgement along with the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess the ability to multi-task and meet unexpected deadlines in a demanding environment.
  • Self-starter and manage to deliver on agreed deadlines (may include consultation with leaders and/or team members)
  • Ability to solve a range of straightforward problems; analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures, accounting systems and general WestJet Group systems
  • Seeks assistance from management to resolve more complex situations (e.g., communicates potential challenges and roadblocks to leaders)
  • Works well with others, is collaborative and team orientated
