We are currently seeking a Communication Advisor to join our Communications team in Thompson, Manitoba. This is a permanent position.

Requirements & Accountabilities:

  • Create and execute a strategic internal communication plan that aligns with the overall Base Metals corporate communications plan and supports the site specific goals and objectives.
  • Create and manage a calendar of internal communications events and activities for MB with support from the Manager of Communications for Base Metals as well as the Base Metals communication team. Examples of related activities include supporting global and local communication campaign roll outs, assisting with Supervisors Cascade, creating content for digital signage, intranet/yammer, Vale News, etc.
  • Sit as part of the site leadership team, providing strategic communications counsel and advice to leaders on communications and messaging.
  • Work in partnership with the North Atlantic and Base Metals internal communications teams to ensure the roll out and facilitation of key internal events and related key messaging (i.e., town halls, business days, VPS events, etc.)
  • Sourcing and writing content and storytelling from across the business in MB for internal communication channels, to build awareness and increase employee engagement (i.e., Vale News, social media, etc.)
  • Provide ad hoc communications support to site teams, as needed.
  • Support the effective roll out and engagement of global communications programs such as cultural transformation, VPS, Safety.
  • Responsible for the overall strategy and execution of the annual community report for MN Operations.
  • Provide crisis communications support and leadership to site level issues and crisis as needed
  • Work in partnership with the external communications team to anticipate issues and develop proactive messaging.

About You

  • 5-10 years of experience required
  • Post – Graduate Degree in a Business or Communications discipline preferred
  • Must understand complex business issues and ability to clearly articulate key messages to target audiences
  • Understanding of the mining industry and industry positions on key issues
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written. Must be able to write and speak persuasively
  • Significant experience in writing and executing communication plans
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact in a positive and productive way with senior leadership, employees and other stakeholders
  • Ability to intuitively understand/anticipate how specific actions and messages will impact on different stakeholders
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure; manage and multi-task on a variety of issues & activities
