BATTLE RIVER SCHOOL DIVISION is seeking applications for the following:

POSITION TITLE: Computer Technician

LOCATION: Support Services Centre (SSC) in Camrose, Alberta

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for providing Technical Support for the division. The key responsibilities are to provide phone, e-mail and in person support to students, teachers and support staff. The role also includes setup and management of new end user hardware along with software support and updates. This can involve configuration as well as troubleshooting and basic knowledge transfer to end users. This position is capable of research and implementation of new technologies, and maintenance of existing services to be integrated with, and used by, the education system. This position is responsible to the Director of Technology.

Battle River School Division provides quality education to approximately 5600 students in 19 traditional schools, 6 of which are within the City of Camrose, and 13 within the counties comprising the Division, as well as 10 Hutterite Colony schools. We have alternative education programs offered through Battle River Alternative Center for Education and North Star Outreach. Battle River also has a French immersion dual track program in three Camrose Schools, as well as a Home Education program.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (QUALIFICATIONS):

  • Post Secondary training in computer science or equivalency.
  • Two years of relevant experience
  • Specialized network, server, VoIP, Wireless, information security, A/V implementation or prior K-12 experience would be an asset.
  • Must have a valid class 5 drivers license.
  • Criminal Records check.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Collaborate with other technology team members to research, evaluate, create, and document design specifications for implementation of both new technology deployments and improvements to existing deployed technologies.
  • Computing and audio / visual hardware and software troubleshooting, testing, and replacement.
  • Provide desktop/laptop/chromebook hardware, software and OS deployment and support onsite and remotely.
  • Basic knowledge and support to maintain and monitor local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), wireless networks (WLAN), and the devices that are required.
  • Evaluate and prioritize service requests to provide imaging, installation, maintenance, and physical repair of end user hardware and software as well as troubleshooting computer operations.
  • Monitor responsible use of all computer software/hardware and maintain division network security.
  • Provide in-service for staff and students when required.
  • Coordinate with members of division departments as well as external contractors as required.
  • Record inventory usage of parts and service materials to ensure accurate inventory and billing.
  • Diligently maintain hardware and software inventory of divisional assets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology.
