Shermco Canada is seeking an Electrical Power Systems Field Engineer.

ELECTRICAL POWER SYSTEMS ENGINEER

We are looking for an Electrical Power Systems Engineer to join our team in Alberta. The Electrical Power Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, maintaining, implementing, or improving electrical instruments, facilities, and components for our clients. Position is to be based out of Calgary and may require to travel throughout the Alberta province when necessary for project support as well as potential U.S. travel. Combination of applicant experience and knowledge as per outlined criteria below will be used in determining the successful candidate.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex electrical analysis and design with a focus on relay protection and controls.
  • Complete electrical system modeling and analysis with regards to arc flash analysis, protection evaluation/coordination, short circuit calculations/equipment evaluation, load flow, and harmonics analysis.
  • Creation/modification/review/approval of electrical drawing packages: single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and general arrangements.
  • Electrical distribution system design and modifications: MCC’s, switchgear, breakers, fuses, switches, transformers, capacitor banks, current transformers, potential transformers, protective relays and controls.
  • Manage the installation and commissioning of new small projects or field maintenance service jobs for clients with potential to grow in size and scope of such activities as experience progresses.
  • Troubleshoot problems and develop practical solutions to correct deficiencies in electrical systems.
  • Quote proposals based on discovered deficiencies or report analysis to facilitate additional field service work.
  • Manage, plan and schedule various project aspects including interfacing with end users and potentially actively managing certain accounts with regards to future scheduled maintenance activities.

Qualifications:

  • A four-year Electrical Engineering Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution within Canada
  • 2+ years of power systems engineering experience with both design and field familiarity, having P. Eng. status is considered an asset to this position.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software
  • Experience with electrical engineering software such as EasyPower, SKM and ETAP
  • Experience with programming and testing microprocessor-based relays
  • Knowledge of typical electrical testing equipment and previous fieldwork experience is considered an asset and should be noted in the application if applicable
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $35.00-$45.00 per hour
