DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

We are currently seeking an Intermediate Engineer/Assistant Project Manager to join our Transportation Structures Team. Reporting to the Vice President, Transportation Structures. We are searching for a candidate that is hands on, decisive and possess the experience and confidence to make detailed design decisions. Responsibilities are, but are not limited to:

  • Complete detailed structural design calculations and analysis;
  • Preparing technical reports and contract documents for Project Manager review;
  • Prepare and review cost estimates, specifications, tender documents, and reports prepared by junior engineers.
  • Assisting with the preparation of proposals, proposal/project work plans, schedules, budgets, and design fees.
  • Assisting the Project Manager for MTO preliminary and detail design transportation projects;
  • Perform technical reviews of work prepared by colleagues for quality assurance purposes;
  • Providing mentorship, technical guidance, support, and oversight to other engineers and technical staff working on projects;
  • Assessing and presenting solutions to technical highway design challenges; and
  • Develop and review engineering of new bridges and bridge rehabilitation design.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • A university degree in Civil Engineering;
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario (P.Eng.);
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive related experience in bridge infrastructure preliminary and detailed design;
  • Proficient user of structural analysis software (Midas and CSiBridge);
  • Sound understanding of:
  • Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA-S6)
  • Ministry of Transportation Ontario standards and policies
  • Industry conventions, particularly with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation
  • Detailed Design experience with:
  • Bridge design for simplified (short span replacements < 30m), non-simplified (medium span replacements 30-60m), structural culvert replacements, and non-simplified rehabilitations
  • Shallow and deep foundation design
  • Fatigue analysis
  • Structural Inspection experience including:
  • Routine condition inspections (OSIMs)
  • Fatigue inspections accompanied by a NDT technician
  • Proven ability to provide construction liaison;
  • Ability to review and sign-off of technical design reports;
  • Preparation of proposals, proposal/project work plans, schedules, budgets, and design fees
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
  • Experienced with project management and has worked in, or has an understanding of the consulting engineering environment; and
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle with valid registration and insurance.
