Parkland Nursery & Landscape Services is a third generation nursery with 550 acres of trees; one could say we have really put our roots down in Red Deer, Alberta. Dad jokes aside, we are a progressive nursery growing premium grade trees to ship all across Western Canada and we need to add to our starting line-up. If you answered yes to all of these questions, there is a good chance you are exactly who we are looking for to join our team! This successful team member’s duties and responsibilities will include:

Duties and Responsibilities:

· The Operator for this position will be responsible for the day to day operation of equipment on landscaping projects including, but not limited to the following:

Operating Skidsteers:

Buckets-Tooth and Smooth

The use of both items in required applications, insuring proper grades and drainage

Installing and leveling topsoil to correct depths and finish to pre-sod stage.

Moving and leveling hard aggregate to correct depths and complete with level grade.

Augers

The use of proper sized augers for the installation of trees, post & cable, bollards and park furniture

Ensuring holes are perpendicular to the horizon and are accurately placed.

Ensuring clean-up is carried out on completion.

Sod Installation (Big Roll)

The use of a big roll attachment to install sod in a timely and efficient manner

Stingers

Ensuring proper use and maintenance of stingers while maintaining zero damage to trees, fences, buildings or property.

Towing Trailers

Ensuring proper hook-up, allowing for correct load weight and ensuring loads are properly strapped.

Operating Mini Excavators:

Buckets: Dig holes and trenches safely and efficiently, insuring proper depths.

Stinger: Able to use the stinger implement to lift and place trees.

Operating a Picker Truck:

Operating a picker arm with extreme caution to place trees over fences; strong communication skills to communicate with swamper especially when visibility is limited.

· The proper installation of the following (from start to finish)

City Park Furniture – benches, garbage receptacles, picnic tables

Post & Cable

Bollards – Fixed and Knock Down

Snow and Silt Fencing

Basketed Trees

· Able to read grading plans and shoot grades

· Current First Aid

· When not operating equipment on a project, work alongside the crew completing various landscaping tasks.

· Being punctual and setting a positive example for other staff to follow.

Skills and Knowledge:

· A good knowledge of equipment maintenance and preventative maintenance.

· A positive attitude and strong work ethic.

· Knowledge, understanding and execution of proper grading techniques.

· Class 5 with Air (Class 3 would be an asset)

Must be committed to working in a safe work environment. Workdays are Monday – Friday (some Saturdays maybe required throughout the season): positions is available immediately. Although the bulk of your responsibility will involve equipment; operating, applicant must be in good, strong physical shape and be willing to work efficiently alongside the crew completing tasks such as raking, flopping sodding and planting.

Salary: $21.00-$25.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
