Reporting to the Manager, Financial Services, the Finance Officer provides accounting services such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue operations, analyses reports, financial advice and support to clients, and other assigned administration duties, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), financial and applicable legislation, policies, procedures, control processes and collective agreements, to ensure quality financial and client services, in accordance with the financial and service goals of the Government of Nunavut.

Some of the responsibilities of the Finance Officer include but are not limited to timely and correct payments to employees and suppliers, the secure handling and deposit of revenues, accurate financial reports for management decision making at the Department level, travel and contacts with internal and external service providers and stakeholders. This position enhances compliance with legislation and policy requirements, impacts cost effective arrangements, client satisfaction, and effective internal and external relationships.

Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities would be acquired through completion a recognized diploma in a related field. Minimum two (2) years of relevant finance experience in a computerized environment and experience in providing advisory services to clients is required for this position.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
