THE OPPORTUNITY

Job Summary


The Health Care Aide at Phoenix Society works under the functional direction of a Licensed Practical Nurse or other designate, and in cooperation with the interdisciplinary team, to assist in the delivery of client care in accordance with established policies, standards and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement individualized care plans and assist with specific tasks related to medication administration, as delegated by nursing team
  • Compassionately assist with daily living activities.
  • Maintain effective caring relationships with families and clients while recognizing the effects that illness, behaviour, stress and disability can have on clients and family relationships.
  • Work collaboratively with the health care team to reach the common goal of providing safe, competent, and ethical care.
  • Use knowledge of the aging process and related health and chronic conditions to provide safe, competent care.
  • Seek help from other members of the health care team when care demands exceed scope of practice or personal competence.
  • Recognize triggers early and responds appropriately to deescalate the situation.
  • Recognize safety risks and implement preventative measures to mitigate harm and risks to self and others.
  • Respect confidentiality and legally regulated requirements when communicating information about the client’s needs to the nursing team.
  • Appreciate the potential value of traditional medicines and alternate forms of healing to the client and their family.
THE CANDIDATE

Qualifications

  • Strong observational and reporting skills.
  • Demonstrated adherence to ethical and privacy standards and related legislation concerning confidentiality.
  • Maintain professional relationships by establishing appropriate boundaries with client and family
  • Proven ability to adhere to personal health and safety guidelines, including the safe operation of equipment. Able to plan and implement care in collaboration with the health care team.
  • Microsoft Office suite proficiency including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong time management and planning skills.
  • Work well independently and as a team member.
  • BC Health Care Aide certification, accompanied by registration in BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry
  • Fluent, and able to effectively communicate professionally, orally and written in English.
  • Current negative Tuberculosis Screening Certificate
  • Current First Aid Certificate with CPR
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check Review through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Records Review Program
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Reliability Status with the Government of Canada

Vaccination Requirement
