Position overview:

The Mechanical and Instrumentation Engineering internship program is the result of a collaboration between the Mechanical and Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls (EI&C) teams. In this role the chosen applicant will experience the scope and responsibilities across these two separate functional teams.


As part of the Mechanical Engineering team, you will participate in a wide range of cross-functional design review meetings working initially towards P&ID development and equipment selection. In this unique role your scope will extend into the instrumentation selection and detailing of supporting documentation including generating instrument lists and providing electrical termination details.


Nature of work:

In this role, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Help create P&ID documents to support new projects.
  • Interpret, comment on and follow contract and customer specifications.
  • Direct cross-functional project design review meetings.
  • Perform equipment sizing calculations and generate a project equipment bill of materials.
  • Perform required calculations to select the appropriate instrumentation for water treatment facilities and prepare supporting documentation (instrument & valve lists, instrument & valve datasheets, instrument installation diagrams, etc.).
  • Develop team productivity tools.
  • Support with project issue resolution related to design and start-up.

Minimum requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Software Engineering, or other related technical discipline.

Useful skills or abilities

While on-the-job training will be provided, candidates may benefit from previous knowledge and exposure in the following areas:

  • Understanding of hydraulics and fundamentals of fluid mechanics.
  • Understanding of basic water chemistry and/or treatment processes.
