Location: Macassa Mine, Kirkland Lake, ON

Rotation: 5/2 (Monday to Friday) or 4/3 (4 days on, 3 days off)

This role is not a Camp Based opportunity.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Based at the Macassa Mine Site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Near Surface Mine Technician/EIT to join our Engineering team.

The Macassa Mine is a high-grade gold producer, with grade improving at depth, and a key valuation driver for Agnico Eagle. Located in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, the Macassa Mine remains one of the highest gold grade mines in the world. Macassa commenced operations in 2002, and with the discovery of the South Mine Complex has been able to increase its level of production significantly over the past five years. The mine is located in an area with well-developed infrastructure, including a provincial highway, a railway system and a private airport. High-grade ore is processed at the Macassa Mill, which currently has available capacity and is located in close proximity to the mine.

The Near Surface Mine Technician/EIT will participate in technical activities related to the ongoing development and production of the mine operation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and Responsibilities of a Near Surface Mine Technician/EIT include:

  • Produce development and stope layouts
  • Check work of his/her peers for correctness and accuracy
  • Develop mining plans in conjunction with other departments such as maintenance, electrical, geology and underground and are required to follow all acts regulations under the OHSA and Reg. 854
  • Stay current of activities within respective headings and remain up-to-date of production, development and drilling rates to accurately schedule and prioritize required work.
  • Reconcile stopes upon completion
  • Provide input to the Senior Mine Planner to develop and maintain a rolling 3-month plan, which will allow the mine to meet its production/exploration commitments and goals
  • Work jointly with Underground Captains to develop daily and weekly plans in a timely manner
  • Survey control points advanced, data downloaded and entered into AutoCAD or other related programs
  • Update all AutoCAD level layers on an as needed basis following drawing standards
  • Provide reference tools for the mine department to operate effectively/accurately
  • Update and issue development and stope heading updates
  • Perform air flow, air quality, and temperature measurements and create weekly reports.
  • Perform audits on auxiliary ventilation installation quality and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with ventilation related regulatory requirements
  • Design auxiliary ventilation circuits
  • Determine diesel equipment allowances
  • Create and maintain ventilation and U/G emergency related drawings
  • Other tasks as required

QUALIFICATIONS

Our ideal candidate has:

  • B.Sc / B.Tech Degree in Mining Engineering or Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 year’s relevant experience in an operating mine
  • Experience in underground Hard Rock Mining Environment preferred
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and presentation skills
  • Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment
  • Working knowledge of mine design software is an asset (AutoCAD, Promine, Deswik)


Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting, computer use, keyboard skills
  • Lifting, up to 10 kg ground to waist height occasionally,
  • Occasional push pull
  • Daily standing, walking over uneven ground
  • Occasionally in awkward positions – squatting, kneeling, bent over
  • Environment conditions can be: hot, cold, humid, wet, or dusty
  • Lighting is restricted, may be excessive noise, underground airflow is artificial
  • Ground conditions may be wet, muddy, slippery, sloped inclines, loose rocks and obstacles on the ground
