Outdoor Designer needed for the summer!

This is a Canada Summer Jobs position. Eligible applicants must fit the following criteria:

  • Between the ages of 15-30
  • Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Available to work a minimum of 30-40 hours weekly

This is a seasonal role lasting a minimum of nine weeks.

Applicants must be available to work a minimum of 30-40 hours per week for 9 weeks. The Outdoor Designer role includes weekend and evening shifts.

Applicants must have received a minimum of two COVID-19 vaccinations to be considered for the position.

Job Description

Shekinah Homes Society is looking for a short-term worker who will work closely with the leadership team to design an outdoor space for our adults with disabilities at their homes. The successful applicant will work and share with our disabled adults about lawn upkeep and gardening, with support from other staff.

Duties

  • Design: Create an accessible, low maintenance, outdoor living space with gardens and features, stimulating all the senses, to promote engagement with nature and community. Including lots of colour, fragrant plants, seating, water management, and native plants.
  • Landscaping: Mowing, line trimming, blowing, hedge trimming, pruning of shrubs and trees and other duties within the daily scope of work.
  • Gardening: Gardening and bed work, weeding, raking, pruning, general clean-up and other duties within the daily scope of work.

Qualifications

  • Driving experience considered an asset
  • Friendly, positive attitude
  • Strong team and interpersonal skills
  • Physical ability to perform digging, moving soil, lifting heavy plants and bins of debris.
