We are located at 1850 Albion Rd #6, Etobicoke, ON M9W 6J9 (close to Hwy 27 and Albion Rd) – transit accessible.

Position Summary

We are looking for a dynamic Packaging Supervisor who will be responsible the direct supervision of the hourly associates and packaging line technicians working a shift rotating pattern, including holidays and weekends. This position is also responsible for enforcing safety, sanitation and GMP practices within the SQF framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the health and safety of all workers under his/her supervision.
  • Responsible to ensure that all operations are safe and that employees work in compliance with established work practices and procedures.
  • Interacts with and participates in the Joint Health and Safety Committee when required.
  • Provides training to employees on safety, quality, operations, and other areas as required.
  • Schedules, directs, and monitors the work of all hourly personnel in a manner that supports exceeding daily standard packaging rates.
  • Evaluates operations and adjusts work schedules when needed to maintain packaging needs.
  • Ensures that equipment is operating properly and efficiently. Liaison with the maintenance team by reporting issues resulting in downtime and assist with root cause analysis.
  • Ensures that the quality of all finished products meets SSF’s requirements and that all food safety, GMP and housekeeping standards are always maintained.
  • Participates in the investigation of customer complaints and identifies corrective action.
  • Leads assigned teams in continuous improvement processes.
  • Ability to identify problems on the packaging floor, make quick decisions to resolve them to support the plant goals.
  • Maintains all required department documentation, logs, files and reports and participates in regular reviews of operations (packaging) performance.
  • Role model outstanding, friendly service and use skills and knowledge to offer solutions that meet or exceed expectations.
  • Manage performance through coaching and disciplinary efforts.
  • Ensure that department conditions involving department appearance, quality, variety, safety, and food safety are consistently maintained at the highest level.
  • Work alongside packers as part of the team
  • Work collaboratively with facility management and Production managers to ensure efficient running of department.
  • Ensure team members are working efficiently and up to organizational standards.
  • Ensure that all final products are properly placed in the areas for delivery.
  • Record all products to be delivered on inventory record.
  • Provide packers with instructions for packing and tray placement of finished product as per production and delivery schedule.
  • Ensure that trays and carts are complete as per location requirements.
  • Operate any equipment safely with knowledge of emergency shut off, as applicable.
  • Ensure that daily packing is finished on time, no delays.
  • Other related duties as may be required in the day-to-day operations of the Ensure work area, tools and supplies are kept organized and sanitary throughout the shift.

  • Has availability weekdays, weekends and holidays
  • Has exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, time management and multi-tasking/
  • Able to work efficiently and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • 70% on the floor and 30% in an office
  • Full-Time position (40 hours per week)
  • Answering internal enquiries after work is required

Qualifications/Education

  • 3 - 5 year’s Supervisory experience in a food processing environment
  • College, University or Technical degree, preferably in manufacturing or food production.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good written and verbal English.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong teamwork/team building/motivation skills.
  • Computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Previous experience with BRC or SQF and HACCP is an asset
  • Experience working with GMP best practices
  • Aptitude for detail, accuracy and prioritizing responsibilities
  • Work with Minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of SAP/any ERP system is an asset
  • Adaptable to changing conditions

Physical Requirements:

  • Be able to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Lift and push up to 50Ibs
  • Being able to perform repetitive tasks
  • Flexibility to work different shifts
