Your Opportunity:

This position is part of the Addiction Prevention Unit (APU) within Provincial Addiction & Mental Health (PAMH) Programs and Services. The HPFII position applies an addiction and mental health (AMH) approach to delay first use, prevent problematic substance use and promote wellbeing. Work will span an array of duties depending on what is required to support both provincial APU initiatives and AMH zone programming. Operational activities will align with PAMH strategic direction and business priorities. Reporting to the PAMH Manager of the Addiction Prevention Unit (APU) the HPFII works to promote positive environments and individual strengths that contribute to personal health, wellness, and increased recovery capital. The HPFII will be involved in creating and supporting initiatives, training, and collaborating on effective AMH prevention and health promotion strategies to encourage individuals, families, and communities to adopt health promoting behaviors that support wellbeing across the lifespan. Incumbents require the ability to provide content knowledge about substances, substance use prevention and mental health promotion to support provincial and zone initiatives. This position requires advanced communication, facilitation, and negotiation skills. The incumbent must also synthesize and present complex information for a variety of purposes and audiences.

Description:

As a Health Promotion Facilitator II, you will lead and coordinate health promotion, disease and injury prevention initiatives and programs using a population health promotion approach. You will identify behavioural, social, political, economic, environmental and organizational factors that promote or compromise health and recommend evidence-informed strategies to address identified priorities. You will conduct situational analyses, literature reviews, environmental scans and focus groups to make recommendations as part of an integrated program planning and evaluation process. You will manage projects using standardized tools and techniques that are conducive or aligned with health promotion, disease and injury prevention practices. You will collaborate with key internal and external key stakeholders in project or program planning, development, implementation, evaluation and improvement. You will facilitate community and staff engagement and build community and staff capacity around population health promotion priorities. You will evaluate the effectiveness of existing health promotion and disease prevention strategies and make recommendations.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of master's degree in Health Promotion, Public or Population Health, Health Education or a related field.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A master’s degree in a relevant health field with a minimum of 5 years of recent experience in AMH. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Operational knowledge and experience with PAMH APU and Mental Health Capacity Building teams. Understanding of etiology of addiction as well as trauma informed, and person-centered approaches. Understands risk and protective factors, recovery-oriented systems of care and social determinants of health. Experience in completing literature reviews and environmental scans to identify emerging trends that will inform and advance best practices, contribute to key messaging and programming. Project Management and evaluation experience of complex projects. Ability to be flexible and work independently in a dynamic and changing environment. Proven initiative, sound judgment and accountability skills Ability to coordinate and facilitate large multi-stakeholder meetings. Demonstrated history of working collaboratively and navigating competing priorities, complex partnerships and meeting deliverables and timelines Experience reviewing grant applications, making award recommendations, and supporting community coalition work that aligns with AHS strategic priorities. Working knowledge of Alberta’s health care system including relevant AHS programs across the continuum of care.

Preferred Qualifications:

Registration with a professional college or association. Progressive professional and personal development. Experience reviewing applications, making award recommendations, and supporting deliverables. Ability to identify best format and/or technology to convey messaging/ health information to target populations. Experience with SharePoint, MS office, Excel, Zoom, MS Teams and Social Media tools. Demonstrated experience in supporting PAMH community initiatives.
