JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:



  • As an industry recognized professional engineer, engages in the most complex engineering
assignments. Researches major issues and independently formulates innovative approaches in
the development of techniques, procedures and programs in order to solve the most complex,
unusual or difficult problems. Provides engineering advice within Hydro and liaises internally and
externally with other engineers and officials in the investigation of problems and the application of
new or special engineering methods. May assign portions of work to other engineers, consultants
and technical support staff, and direct and check work.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of business unit objectives, quality assurance
standards, customer needs, NERC CIP design and sustainment activities and assists in managing
the technical and operational performance of the unit to meet these objectives and client servicing
needs.

  • Assists on work planning and resources allocations to various projects within the work program;
coordinates work, and provides instructions, advice and technical guidance to other security
engineers, project and technical staff; reviews work in progress and assesses completed work for
accuracy, required results and compliance with quality assurance standards and procedures.

  • Provides technical leadership and acts as an expert technical resource responsible for providing
expert professional/technical advice in engineering and projects within and outside the
department.

  • Researches major issues and independently formulates innovative approaches in the
development of techniques, procedures and programs in order to solve the most complex,
unusual or difficult problems.

  • Investigates and analyzes challenging or unusual problems of an engineering and project nature,

develops alternatives, evaluates risks and applies innovative solutions.
Establishes review procedures, technical and quality assurance standards in area of expertise and
reviews, enhances and develops methods, procedures and technical standards to take advantage
of new technology and improve department effectiveness and efficiency for both NERC and non-
NERC (Enterprise) related physical security activities.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 8 years experience in a relevant engineering field including considerable electric
utility experience

  • Engineering degree in related discipline with demonstrated proficiency as a Senior Engineer

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists B.C.(EGBC)

  • Immediate eligibility to obtain the P.Eng. designation with EGBC.

  • Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring staff, contractors and/ or teams

  • Broad technical knowledge of the utility business with recognized technical expertise in one
technical function i.e. generation, transmission, maintenance, or protection
and control

  • Excellent leadership, organizational, team building and project management skills

  • Ability to take initiative, apply critical thinking, and support appropriate and timely actions to meet
objectives

  • Strong research and analytical skills

  • Demonstrated ability to manage the successful implementation and delivery of products and
services to the client

  • Knowledge of environmental, socio-economic and public interest issues and their impact on area
of expertise

  • Expert technical knowledge in generation, transmission, maintenance, apparatus, civil structures
and protection and control functions

  • Ability to provide expert technical advice and assistance to various internal and external sources

  • Ability to develop and evaluate cost/benefit studies

  • Ability to provide work or project leadership over consultants, junior engineers, or technical
support staff

  • Well developed research and analytical skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain the following requirements in good
standing:


Driver's License Type = Class 5
P.Eng. with EGBC = In Good Standing
EGBC: Engineers & GeoScientists BC = In Good Standing

Flexible work model role definitions
===========================
Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home
based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for
each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time
from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.

IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
