Position Summary


As a Senior Payroll Specialist, you will be knowledgeable in processing and managing the company’s payroll and benefits administration. Report directly to the Manager of Accounting Services, the Senior Payroll Specialist will be the one to calculate wages based on hours worked and administer payments using ADP payroll software with accuracy and efficiency. The Senior Payroll Specialist is excellent with numbers and can be trusted with sensitive information. You will have strong communication skills to interact with varies stakeholders within the firm.


As a Senior Payroll Specialist your key accountabilities will involve:

  • Accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll for Ventana’s 180+ employees (hourly and salary).
  • Accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll for a subsidiary company of 50 employees (hourly and salary).
  • Accurate processing of bonuses, LOAs, employee referral payments, retroactive payments, etc.
  • Verify and validate employee timesheets for completeness and accuracy.
  • Assist with time and attendance monitoring (vacation tracking, sick leave, apprenticeships).
  • Update and maintain accurate employee information (new hires, terminations, status changes, address updates, etc.)
  • Report to government bodies and regulatory authorities (CRA, WCB remittances, EHT Remittance).
  • Assist with the administration of group RRSP and Extended Benefits plans.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed payroll and benefits records.
  • Prepare Record of Employment (ROE) within legislated timelines when required.
  • Review and process expense reimbursements.
  • Assist with annual year end process (reconciliations, updating taxable benefits, and preparing T4s).
  • Provide a high-level of customer service to employees regarding their pay and vacation inquiries.
  • HR-related responsibilities (prepare new employee files, scan confidential documents, assemble new employee handbooks, prepare welcome packages, and other programs as needed).
  • Ad Hoc as required.

As a Senior Payroll Specialist your experience and qualifications will include:

  • Minimum 3 years of Canadian payroll experience
  • Thorough understanding of BC employment standards, WCB, and Canada Revenue Agency taxation guidelines as they relate to payroll and benefits.
  • Completion of or working towards Canadian Payroll Associations Payroll Compliance Practitioner certificate or Certified Payroll Manager certificate
  • Experienced user of ADP Workforce Now or a similar program (i.e. Ceridian)
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Detail oriented, committed to continuous improvement, and thrives in a dynamic environment.
  • Understanding of basic accounting
