Reporting to the Manager, Metering and Telecom Engineering, this position is responsible for the leadership and development of the Load Settlement, Load Research, and Meter Data Management teams to meet strategic deliverables and project targets.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for engineering practices and metering operations in the group and manages escalated engineering and operational issues
  • Performs validation and other Responsible Member functions in accordance with ATCO Electric's Professional Practice Management Plan
  • Initiates process improvements, standards changes, or field recommendations as required.
  • Monitors consolidated business metrics to ensure targets are met and identify trends, issues
  • Ensures competency of staff by ensuring there is a professional responsibility for all Engineering and operational work
  • Ensure that ATCO Electric is compliant with the Settlement System Code (SSC), Tariff Billing Code (TBC), Measurement System Standard (MSS), as well as all legislation, regulations and regulatory decisions that impact meter data management, load research and load settlement and that these requirements are implemented in an effective manner
  • Ensure that all requirements associated with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) filings and decisions related to load research and load settlement are met in an effective manner
  • Ensure that loss analysis and load research is completed to meet regulatory requirements and timelines
  • Optimizes the use of resources across the group and liaisons with the other Supervising Engineers to ensure operational and strategic targets can be met
  • Provides leadership and direction for new initiatives within the group
  • Develops and manages the strategic application of human resources within the Engineering Groups
  • Supervises the Engineers and in-scope employees in the group and is actively involved in performance management plans, coaching, and succession planning
  • Works with Engineers and in-scope employee's to ensure all employees have career development plans, goals are being met, and all strategic areas within the group are fully integrated
  • Provides visible leadership to ensure compliance with the corporate policies and best practices related to Health, Safety and Environment
  • Managing and maintaining relationships with Supervising Engineers, Engineering Managers and with peers within and external to ATCO Electric
  • Supports long-range financial planning within the groups considering customer, community, and employee growth expectations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer or Professional Licensee designation. Licensure with APEGA is required
  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience with ATCO or in a Utility Environment in a role where strong leadership, technical skills, and business acumen were required and demonstrated
  • Proven leadership skills & ability to nurture/coach professionals & field employees
  • Understanding AUC Rule 021 (SSC), AESO Measurement System Standard (MSS), Measurement Canada specifications, and all legislation and regulations impacting MDM system, Load Research, Load Analysis and other metering systems.
  • Strong business knowledge in the utility & regulated environment
  • Working knowledge of our Metering Operations groups & the challenges they face day to day
  • Proven safety leadership
  • Proven experience applying sound judgment to make decisions
  • Proven ability to manage and resolve conflict
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship development skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Technical knowledge in Oracle CSS, Load Settlement and Load Research is an asset
  • Previous experience working in Metering Engineering, Load Research, and Load Settlement is an asset
