What Does a Truck and Heavy Equipment Technician Do?

Under general supervision, the Licensed Truck & Heavy Equipment Technician will be responsible for preventative and corrective maintenance work, inspections, modifications, installation/dismantling of systems, troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairs of construction related equipment.

As a Truck and Heavy Equipment Technician, You Will:

  • Demonstrate safe, environmentally sound and healthy work behaviors at all times in support of Miller’s Health and Safety Policies, Programs and initiatives
  • Read diagrams/schematics and manufacturers repair manuals for work procedures in order to make repairs per the manufacturer’s specifications
  • Maintain and service a fleet of trucks, pavement preservation and heavy construction equipment
  • Repair of heavy trucks, including engines, hydraulics, electrical and heavy power train, aftertreatment diagnostics/repairs
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance
  • Perform service calls for emergency breakdowns and on-road/off-site repairs
  • Complete daily service documentation electronically
  • Able to perform services on electrical, hydraulic, power train, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment
  • Inspect and examine vehicles and equipment
  • Lubricate, service, diagnose, repair, assemble, and maintain vehicles and equipment
  • Timely and accurate diagnosis and repair including computer connection/diagnosis with machine to identify fault codes
  • Provides guidance and instruction to less experienced, or apprentice maintenance personnel
  • Utilize computer electronic systems to interpret failure modes
  • Suggest positive changes to policy and procedures as required
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Conduct safety checks on vehicles and equipment
  • Annual PMCVI Inspection for trucks

What You'll Bring

  • Must possess, and keep valid their applicable licenses including a valid 310T Truck & Coach Technician’s License
  • Apprentices will be considered, training will be provided
  • Roadside service experience an asset
  • First Aid certificate is an asset
  • Diagnostic software experience an asset
  • Previous experience working with Concrete Mixers
  • The ability to diagnose and rectify fault codes
  • Experience in diagnosing/repairing hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Valid G license required
  • Own set of tools
  • Participate in the shop 6S program
  • Enjoy working in a team environment
  • Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, if required
  • Comprehend and follow written and spoken directions and work in a safe & efficient manner
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
