Traffic Development Specialist

Public Works – Transportation

(2) Two Positions Contract Full-Time, 24 Months

Pay Band: $86,443 - $108,052 per annum

Hours of work: 35 hours/week


The Role
:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Traffic Development & Permits the Specialist will be responsible for providing expert guidance and advice relating to Traffic Development.


What you will do in this role
:

  • Manage the revision and amendment of the Region’s Controlled Access By-law assess and refine access policies and procedures.
  • Develop a proactive access management monitoring program.
  • Provides expert interpretation to Traffic Development related By-laws.
  • Develop strategic relationships with developers/owners/planners/politicians.
  • Represent the Region in multi-jurisdictional applications managing stakeholder interests.
  • Represent the Region during OP Amendments, Secondary and Block Planning processes.
  • Provides professional testimony at the Ontario Municipal Board proceedings.
  • Represents the Traffic Development group on the Goods Movement Task Force, at the Institute of Transportation Engineers Ontario Chapter and the Ontario Good Roads Association.
  • Contribute to Environmental Assessments and Capital Project Designs as they relate to Traffic Development.
  • Oversee the development Charges Intersection Program.
  • Oversees the implementation of web-based traffic initiatives.
  • Research industry best practices.

What the role requires:

  • Successful completion of a degree or diploma in Transportation/Civil Engineering Technology and or Transportation Planning
  • 5 to 7 years relevant and progressive experience related to the management of a Regional road system
  • Background in Urban and Regional planning would be an asset
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the HTA and other relevant legislation, Planning Act, ITE, OPSD, TAC, OTM, HCM, and other related design and engineering standards and manuals
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Environmental Assessment process and traffic development
  • Extensive knowledge of design standards, related codes, regulations, tendering/contract process and contract administration
  • Detailed knowledge of computerized traffic engineering applications and methodologies
  • Strong negotiating, public relations, communication, and problem solving skills
  • Organized with excellent computer skills, written communication skills and demonstrated skills in project management
  • Valid G driver’s license (in good standing)

Location: In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
